Are the poker rooms in AC typically busier than usual on the evening before Thanksgiving?

Evening before Thanksgiving? Very slow.
Thanksgiving day? Very slow.
Thanksgiving night? Gets busy
Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving? The busiest I've ever seen casinos (barring events)

Someone else did say they make you post now when first sitting down and that just started a few weeks ago, I believe.
Oceans has been raking without flop since, basically, the first month, when I frequented. In fact, I stopped a dealer to verify and the floor came over and confirmed that they do rake, even without a flop.

Granted, their dealers varied from excellent to clueless when I played there, and some were unsure on what to do in various scenarios. You may have seen it both ways simply because dealers were not up to speed.

Borgata's biggest high hand promo of the year is this weekend. Last year, the whole room was full, and that says something.

When they rake without a flop, it's only based on called bets to be considered part of the rake-able pot, though, so it's not like you raise to 8 and take the blinds and they take a dollar out because the pot was 11 bucks. You basically need a 3-bet or more and everyone folds, and then they rake only on what was in the pot before the 3-bet. Doesn't seem like that's such a huge deal.

It seems pretty straight forward small1$, large 2$ three callers and a raise to10$ there is 11dollars committed to the pot and the bet is 10 for the next to act. In total at this time there is a pot of 11 bucks, If all fold to the raiser the house is still entitled to 1$ rake, where is the beef???

It's $1 that most rooms don't take. There's the beef.

Sure, it's all money that would have been in the pot on the flop if there had been a flop, so it's a pretty slim argument that the house isn't entitled. But NFND is reasonably standard, so it doesn't seem unreasonable to hold it against the outliers.

The rules of the game are pretty standardized by the state gaming commission. It is my understanding that it took AC years to allow a single straddle because they had to amend these rules. I'm sure that the rules give the casinos an option on whether to rake no-flops or not, since it is happening.

As a player, however, I want to win the most money and the casino to shave the least money. A raise to $15, 2 callers, and a squeeze means $5 bucks disappeared. I could've won $48, but get $43 instead. It is probably no coincidence that highest raking venues - like Sugarhouse - are full of short stacks as money disappears from the tables very fast.

As for outliers, it is Atlantic City that is the outlier. In Vegas, most (all?) casinos have a NF-ND.

Atlantic City is different from Las Vegas.
In AC we get free rooms, free food, free shows,
$3 an hour to play poker, $3.75 an hour in
Comps, high hand promotions,
Bad Beat,
free play offers, 3X comps,
Free Bingo, extra dining comp dollars,
gift cards, bottles of wine,
Complimentary upgrades to suites,
Slot tournaments, free parking,
Massage parlors on the boardwalk,
and at Hard Rock Casino and #TheOceanAC, the youngest cocktail
Waitresses in the Northeast, who
Brought me all the drinks I
could imagine this weekend.
Low limit players in AC are experts
At looking at the whole package.
And as it gets colder, and
Old Man Winter settles in, we
Get card upgrades & every
Other promotion...

"Poker brought in $1.8 million, a 14.5 percent decrease when compared with last year."

There are new rumors of Hard Rock opening a poker room. I wonder if it's all just wishful thinking.

Yeah, it does make you wonder how viable yet another poker room would be. Poker is down 11.9% so far this year in AC compared to last; I was trying to come up with factors explaining this, since that seems like a pretty considerable drop-off to me. Resorts Catskills opened, which offered another option for the NYC/NY/Northern NJ crowd, but that certainly can't explain the decline in total. Besides simply less interest in poker, is there anything else that anyone can think of that would explain it?

I think that the poker community would benefit from AC scaling down to three or four rooms total.

Been saying it for years. Its a saturated market. There should be 1 room on marina side of town. Borgata obviously and 1-2 rooms on boardwalk. Like A huge PokerStars or hardrock room. Trop is a waste, ballys is a dump, harrahs is folding, and Nugget is a poopshow.

Bally's is the best dump though

Also, love that Nuggy poopshow.

I wish they'd open up the Stars room. Been hearing for years it's ready to go, and I kind of believe it, but I think I'd prefer HR over it (surprisingly).

EDIT: Harrah's is folding, figure of speech or...?

Brief update on my trip to ac.

I Played at Borgata, harrahs, and Bally's. The former def has the least amount of volume, however on late night weekends you get the drunken degens and college kids. One thing I noticed though is both Bally's and harrahs have their regulars. You will atleast sit with two at the table who are known by name, depending on the time you play.

Apparently the Borgota is the most popular spot to play at, containing both fish and whales alike. Thats the place to be and the most luxurious.

Anyone know where the 10/20 OE game plays on Wednesdays? Have an unexpected day off and may try and head down and play in that game. Thanks.

On Wednesday and Friday's, OE is at Golden Nugget. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at Ocean.

Can anyone tell me if comps at Caesers properties (Caesers, Harrahs, Ballys) are redeemed for 1:1 at the restaurants ?

Thanks

Some yes, some no. Somewhere on the Total Rewards website there's a chart for which ones are 1:1 and which are 2:1.

It has to do with ownership. For example, the cafe/gelato in Harrah's lobby is 2:1 but the buffet is 1:1.

At some point a long time ago one of the poker rooms, I think the Taj, used to run a low buy-in midnight tourney. Anyone know if any of the AC poker rooms have something like that for Sat or Sunday night?

Also, what's the current consensus on the best sports book in terms of screens and comfort to watch the Sunday NFL slate? I won't be betting much, just hanging out, so I don't care about lines.

My educated guess would be sports gambling. It's hundreds of millions of dollars in just the past five months, sudden and novel in its (legal) appearance, and confined in impact to NJ and environs.
