20 a person to get in,, well worth it , if you get there early enough, plenty of big screens, and the food isnt that bad either.

If any of you have ever played at Ballys AC who is the Picture on the wall of the guy with the cowboy hat and cigar ?
The one right net to it is Stu Ungar.

This is just from memory, but I'm thinking it's Crandell Addington.

I don't get this whole idea. They weren't profitable as a casino-hotel, but somehow will be as just a hotel, with a lot of wasted empty space? What am I missing?

I guess it's profitable to have hotel rooms on the boardwalk in the summer. I don't know what they are going to look like come winter.

But they were profitable. Harrahs just had to cut down on number of properties in AC.

Why did CET "have to" cut down on properties in AC? And if the hotel can be profitable in the summer, couldn't a hotel / casino be profitable in the summer too? Don't see any reason they couldn't still close in the winter if they wanted.

Showboat was pushing thirty years old and with three other AC properties market was and is saturated.

Bruh I've been going to AC for the last 10 years and this sat was the most it has ever cost me with solid play at the borgata in pits and poker.

300$ room. Every other Saturday this summer has been like 1-2 hundo.

CZR's had three casinos in AC. Caesars, Harrahs and the Showboat. All three were profitable. They closed the Showboat which was the least profitable, hoping that the loyal CZR players would move to Caesars and Harrahs.

They sold the Showboat to Stockton College (That's another story) who sold it to a developer who re-opened it as a hotel only.

I completely forgot about Bally's. The Wild Wild West is also a part of Bally's.

Anyways, they closed a profitable casino hoping players would go to their other casinos.

Seems odd since Showboat isn't that close to their other casinos. If that was the reason it would have made more sense to close Bally's - since it's right next door to Caesar's, more likely people would move over.

Agreed. Bally's sucks anyway, I liked the set up of Showboat better.

Showboat was profitable, but the weakest of the four. Presumably they determined that enough CET loyalists would just move to one of the other three to make it worth the savings of running three properties instead of four.

Comparing the gross gaming revenue of June 2014 to June 2016, they might not have been right, at least about how much business they'd lose. Though maybe Showboat's profit margin would be thinner now and they're pleased to have gotten out before they started losing.
