Re: Atlantic City General Discussion

Thinking about flying up there next time I head to Atlantic City. It's only a seven hour drive and the flight with all the stops and bus taking would be roughly 6 hours is my guess. Some rates I got are like 250 round trip for next weekend. They are probably lower than that if I book earlier right?

Oh and only flights around me go in to Philly airport. How hard is it to get to AC from Philly without a vehicle?

Not hard at all!! Try Greyhound Lucky Streak for $15 round trip and leave the driving to them. Its only about 2 hours on the bus and there are multiple modes of transportation in AC to get around without a car.

Not hard at all.

You'll need to take the SEPTA train from the airport to 30th Street Station, and then NJT from 30th Street to Atlantic City. Select Philadelphia 30th Street for the FROM and Atlantic City for the TO.

Secondly If I wanted to play cash NLHE 1-2 or 2-5 Friday midday and/or Sunday morning/afternoon would you suggest playing anywhere else but the Borgata?

Lastly Anyone have any suggestions for bars or clubs on a Friday/Saturday night?
Your first choice should depend on whether you have a players card at any of the properties. Check your offers online and see if you qualify for a reduced rate. Otherwise, you can call Caesars and ask if they have room rates, although mostly discounts only apply to players card holders. If you want, you can arrive early and play cash game, I believe that after 7-8 hours of play, you can qualify for a poker room rate at the property you played at.

Bally's and Harrah's usually have good games going on the days indicated, Harrah's offering a 1-2 and sometimes 2-5 (mostly midday and evening availability). Bally's offers a $150-$500 buy-in that brings alot of action as well. There is always games at the borgata, but I guess you wanted other options.

As far as bars/clubs go, cant be of too much help since I'm not into that scene anymore. However, you can check with any of the Casinos, I know that Harrah's and the Borgata both offer a night club scene on the weekends and pricing is not outrageous.

going to ac in 2 weekends and was wondering about traffic on friday night from Baltimore area to ac. Friend gets off work at 5 i think and has to get me from baltimore area. Will there be any traffic on 95 and the Ac expressway in the evening or is it going to move fast? We might just come saturday morning if we will hit traffic and get there at 10 or 11 but id prefer getting a weekend out of it

side note- staying at econolodge on pacific behind tropicana anyone ever stay?

yikes on room choice...I think i'd rather sleep in my car ; ) I personally wouldn't stay in any of the atlantic/pacific motels. I'd stay out on the blackhorse or whitehorse pike.

I can't really speak to 95/295 traffic, but AC expressway is wide open off season.

Once you get out of Baltimore, traffic shouldn't be too bad until you hit 295. Although, Friday night traffic between 5pm and 7pm is never good anywhere. Advice, wait until 7pm to leave or try to leave earlier. I've made this drive and would advise against leaving during rush hour. As far as hotels go, if you don't have comps to supplement room rates, try Absecon which is about 10-15 off the White Horse. The room rates are much better and the drive is easy.

Trust me i know that staying off the boardwalk not only is dangerous/sketchy but a Pain In the A** and this was not by my choice at all(not happy about doing this) i i had booked the executive suite at trump plaza(very nice room) and moved the reservation twice already due to scheduling conflicts with people coming. On top of this with people being cheap and my friend having a "successful"(Living/not robbed) trip staying at econolodge he more or less insisted on staying there because its cheap so we have more money to gamble. I gave in because otherwise i would not be going to ac anytime soon

we wanted to stay in AC because we plan on drinking and obviously dont want to drive/pay the cab to get home and have to make the set decision when to get into and out of AC

but say my friend get to my apt at around 6:30/45 and we leave by 7 will we get there by 930ish? I dont see the point getting there at 11 to start drinking than and get to a casino/bar by 1

You've got a good chance. It mapquests to 2:45, and as long as there is no traffic down by Baltimore, I don't foresee any from the Delaware line (near where I live) on, unless you get unlucky with an accident.

If you're trying to make good time and speeding a bit, I highly suggest slowing down right as you past the exit for 896, which is the first exit off I-95 in Delaware. There's a mile or two between there and the Service Plaza where they love to run radar. There are a few authorized vehicle only u-turn spots there and cops will be sitting there about half the time it seems.

you do not have a clue

the White House makes a great italian hoagie & to compare it to Subway is just plain dumb

is it expensive, yes because the whol hoagie (not half) can be 2 to 3 meals for the average person who wants to stay skinny

You can get 3 footlongs at Subway for the price of 1 White House sub, and they will be immensely more enjoyable. And the Taj outlet accepts comps, but only at 2:1.

Re: Atlantic City General Discussion

Just to update those who commented on Borgata comps, I have played there on three occasions (about 6 hrs each) and when I checked my offers on the Borgata site, I already have Sun-Thurs comped, and decent (still expensive) weekend rates. Food comp is also better than any other AC casino.

That was easy haha. Didn't have to talk to anyone or DO anything. Awesome.

Easiest Way to Get Comped Rooms in AC?

Which poker room in AC right now is it easiest to get comped rooms?

I use to get comped rooms back few years ago at the Taj and Caesars AC but this occurred when I played $25 Blackjack minimum. Most of the time I just bet $25 but I played a lot and also lost a good amount as well.

Someone mentioned Harrahs is very easy to get comps even if you play something as simple as 1/2NL. Is this true? What I find confusing about this is since Harrahs is under the same brand as ShowBoat, Ballys and Caesars, wouldn't playing at Harrahs poker room be the same as the other 3 rooms?

When I was in Las Vegas, I did play table games and lost a good amount. As that happened, my total rewards card showed I had lot of comped rooms in Las Vegas obviously inviting me to come and stay which I will. However, I have zero comps with my total reward card for Atlantic City. Can someone explain this?

I know the Taj offered 2 comped rooms a week for me back then. Is that still the case for you guys who get comped rooms? I don't care for fridays/saturdays since I know its very hard to get those rooms. I just want the standard Sunday-Thursday but don't get it much anymore. And if I'm not mistaken, when I got a comped room at Caesars or ShowBoat, it was once a week from the top of my memory. Can someone here confirm if you get comped rooms only get 1 room a week?

Does anyone also know about borgata? I read its 2 comped rooms a week if you play enough? In terms of poker, would 1/2NL be sufficient or does it have to be 2/5NL? What about limit? And if 1/2NL is sufficient, how many hours would you say it would take for a person to get comped rooms? Would doing say 7 hours a day for 2 days in a row be enough? To those who get comped rooms at Borgata, how many hours of poker play did it take to get rooms? And if so, how long do these offers take to show up? I read some say it takes weeks? The funny thing is when i got room offers at the Taj and from Caesars/Showboat, this was probably a few days after I lost a good amount. Is it weeks now then? Or is it possible to get it within a few days after logging lot of hours?

I also though about playing $25 Blackjack at the tables and doing it so I can get comped rooms, but this would be not smart as the longer you stay, the more you would lose. So even when I did have comped rooms, I already paid them with my losses. Just wondering which poker room in AC is good for getting comped rooms.

I also don't plan to play any slots/video poker nor table games. Is it possible to get comped rooms just for poker? I heard borgata and harrahs was very easy but again I thought something didn't sound right as harrahs is same as caesars, showboat and ballys. Would someone like to explain this.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Easiest Way to Get Comped Rooms in AC?

I have a players card at every AC casino actually. But the only ones I pretty much ever use are Total Reward and the Taj.

I played at the Borgata recently but only played about 2 hours. I wanted to know how many hours it takes before I see comped rooms. And is there a minimum limit? Are you saying a person who plays a lot of hours playing something like 2/4 or 3/6 limit would get comped as well? I read someone mentioning he got comped rooms after playing 1/2 for 6 hours each for 3 days though he didn't specify if they were 3 days in a row or like 1 once a week.

There is little rhyme or reason as to how casinos give out comp rooms. Playing slots tends to be the quickest way. Yes, some people have rec'd free rooms from simply playing poker. But many more have rec'd them from slots. Drop $200-$300 at one of the Ceasar's properties or Taj, wait a bit, and see what you get.

Any AC Rooms still give actual cash refund for bus travel from NYC?

It's been so long since I've been to AC that I was surprised to learn Taj Mahal only gives slot machine credits in exchange for the $37 bus ticket to get there from New York City. Have all the casinos adopted this policy, or can a poker player get cash back with which to play a REAL game (as opposed to a sucker's game)? Thanks.

I played 2/4, 3/6 for about 8 hours and got comped rooms at Borgata. About the same on total rewards. Would rather stay at Borg as the "tax" is only $5 a night, where it is $13 a night on the boardwalk.

very easy to get 2 comped rooms a week, sun-thur, at borgata. play a single 7 hour session and you should see it on your offers page on the website. this is at 1-2. if you play 10-20 limit or 2-5 nl (or any timed and not raked game) you'll start seeing weekend rooms after a few sessions.

By drop 200-300 dollars at the slots, do you mean actually lose 200-300 dollars or you mean wager that amount? I hear this a lot but never understood what this meant.

Pretty sure all the bus bonused are in slot credits now, generally $25.
I just run them once through a video poker machine though and generally get back somewhere between $15-$30, so it works fine for me. The best video poker machines have a payback of 99.7% if you play them right.

Really? I'm such a total doofis when it comes to the machines, I just wasted my $25 credit having no clue how to win at the thing. My first time on one, though not my last if I intend going back (I'd rather find a private club in NYC to play but don't know anyone to get me in one). If you have any tips on how to turn their credit into cash-payout wins on whichever video poker machines you're talking about I'd be grateful (I played joker poker, not knowing one from another). Thanks.

Re: Atlantic City General Discussion

The best video poker machines in AC ar generally "Jacks or Better" games, if you find the ones that pay 9 for a full house and 6 for a flush. Most AC casinos have some of these, but in limited number and you may need to look around to find the best ones. Even if you don't play the best games though, any VP has a pretty decent payoff if you play them right. Check out this page (and related pages) for strategy, and feel free to PM me if you want to ask anything else.

Where are these jacks or better games that pay 9 for a full house? By 9 you mean 9 total but 8 profit right? As in 2 pair you get paid 2 but of course you win only 1?

At Caesars the jacks or better pays 6 if i'm not mistaken? , I played these multiple times Which jacks or better video poker offers those higher payouts?

Really you just have to look to find the good machines. The paycharts for one coin on the good JoB machines will say Full House 9 / Flush 6.
Some worse ones will say Full House 8 / Flush 5, or some other lower combinations. I knew Caesars used to have at least a few good JoB machines, they were somewhere towards the back right a bit past the poker room if coming from the boardwalk. Been probably two years since I have played there though.

For more VP info you should check the "Other Gambling" forum here, and/or this site: http://www.vpfree2.com/

I was under the impression that with perfect strategy, the 9:6 Jacks or better machines paid back 99.54%. Is there another game that pays more? If so, which, and where are they found?
