I think I might switch to the Chinatown buses. Hate the Greyhound window at the Port Authority.

Any recommendations for the Chitown buses?

To get the complete AC experience, you got to take the jitney.

Both greyhound and academy to AC are pretty horrible. I'm giving the edge to Greyhound though because if you miss a bus for academy, you have to wait 3+ hours for the next one and they never send another bus if a line is long and one fills up.

For greyhound, Wifi never works, always late, and just generally inconsistent. A few weeks ago I was told at the bus info desk at ballys that the 9 pm was going to be a couple hours late. Went to the casino to play my free play (30 minutes tops) and come back and the person at the front desk tells me that the bus actually was on time and already left. Wtf?

Makes me really want to get a car but living in NYC makes owning a car impractical for the most part, and ridiculously expensive. Some day. Really wish there was a practical way to take the train. Trains>>>>>>>bus

Another option- NJ transit. No casino bonus, but the buses are in better shape, and the drivers are better too.

Admittedly I do sometimes. Less these days since they got rid of the numbered ones. All the Jitneys now take this stupid long route where they pass by the aquarium and then double back when heading to the marina. I miss the #2.

Once when I was feeling exceptionally nitty I took the TR Shuttle to Harrah's and walked

No bathrooms on the buses, though.

Never take the chinatown bus then.

Yep. Never for a second sounded like a good idea to me lol. Any bus where the driver requires "tips" and can be seen gambling at the baccarat table right next to you is not a bus I really want to put my trust in.

Can't beat the 21 for rt and 50 back though . i take it because I can see the bus from my window literally and it pains me to go uptown to come back down.

God I wish there was a train. I would gladly pay double to take Amtrak to AC and I don't care about the bonus.

I know there is some crazy way to go to philly and transfer but from what I understand it takes like 4+ hours each way

They could even call it something poker-related like the Aces Train.

I took it once , and while it was cool. Not worth it IMO. Get me there in 2:10 and give me my bonus. A day like today I might consider though.

Yeah I have been a long time NYC/AC commuter and I am quite sick of it myself. Expensive, long, etc. There are ridiculously cheap buses to Philly, staying there is cheaper, public trans is much better. I am gonna go out there and give their rooms a shot, stay for a week or so.

Borgata is the only place where you can reliably get 2-5.
1-2 can be gotten at Bally's & Harrah's as well.
But I strongly recommend Borgata.

The smaller rooms will all have 1/2 but only The Borgata will have a 2/5 game that runs consistently. Besides, it's the nicest room there is in AC.

Whenever someone asks what the "best" room is I say it depends what you mean by "best". Borgata is, by far, the biggest, if that's what you want. It does usually have more tables going than all the other rooms combined, so obviously it's doing something right. Other rooms have their regulars too, though. If your friend likes a smaller, more intimate room, like I do, he might want to try another room. The Golden Nugget has a very small room, and others are somewhere in the middle. Rooms offer different comps too. I liked the Showboat when it was open. It was a small room, I got to know the dealers well, it was on the Boardwalk (which is a plus for me, especially in the summer) and I really liked one of the restaurants there. If your friend will be there the whole weekend I'd suggest trying at least a couple rooms.

academy doesn't have wifi so it's a wash... but i feel the frustration when you think you're going to get it and it's terrible.

the big plus for greyhound other than schedule is every bus has a toilet. academy is probably 1 in 4 buses has one and it's luck if you get that bus.

plus for academy is price (especially if you use the frequent rider card) and shorter lines.
Since when does Academy not have wifi?

IME it's been more like 3/4 buses with toilets, but yeah, it's really stupid that it's not 100%.

My parents do the train to philly/train to AC thing all the time. I don't recall exactly how long it takes, but the key is to check the schedules and plan your departure times so you don't have a long wait in philly in between trains.

academy has wifi? if they do i've totally missed it, but glad to hear they have it. i don't even try to use the greyhound one because it's so bad my 4g is better.

also, as mentioned by name jokingly above, there was a train that went "express". it went to philly and then over because that's where the tracks were, but it only stopped in new york, newark, metropark, and ac. it took 2.5 hours to get down and 2 to get back. but it was so poorly run that it failed. if the amtrak/nj transit workers even tried to make the ride slightly enjoyable it would have been a huge success. i have a personal theory that the train line was some how offensive to the train workers for them to always try to make the ride unbearable (rude, close off cars so everyone sits crammed together, always having a reason the food station couldn't be open, only one bathroom open, super cold, etc). then they reduced the schedule because of a decrease of ridership which resulted in even more reductions of ridership.

Well a direct train is all but a pipe dream now with all the talks of the meadow land casino opening up so time to get used to the bus or get a car.

Random site note it always amuses me when people get off at the bus terminal instead of the casino. They must hate money I guess.

One of the big ideas floated by the Revel's new owner (or maybe it was one of the other bidders, I don't recall) was a high speed direct ferry between NY and AC. Whether or not anyone thinks it would ever happen, it's an interesting idea.

I dunno.... it's appx 100 miles from NYC to AC over the water. Not sure how fast a "high speed" ferry travels but even at 40MPH it's a 2.5 hour trip.....

Well, I said it was an interesting idea, not a practical one.

Actually I think you're right about on the mark. A Google search comes up with high speed ferries in Lake Michigan and Martha's Vineyard that both boast speeds "in excess of 40 mph".

I also came across this article from a couple weeks ago:

http://www.attractionsmanagement.com...&codeID=317115

The city's going to turn the old Atlantic Club into a family fun center, including a water park. The article also says that Straub still includes a water park and a high speed ferry in his plans for Revel.
