my parents just went to Vegas and i told them about the $20 trick. curious to see what happens. I, myself have never tried it as i imagine a refusal would be a really awkward, almost mortifying situation, and im weird like that. It's the same way I feel about the PBA card in my wallet that I (*knock on wood*) have never had to awkwardly hand a cop like I was above the law.

all that said, if it works for my dad, I'm definitely trying it next time.

It's really not a big deal at all. Which hotel in Vegas are they staying? At certain ones it has a 0% success rate.

Straub's Revel purchase is on the move again. He says he's also buying Showboat from Stockton, and will announce grandiose plans for AC in the coming days.

I was good friends with someone who was married to a prison guard and each year she gave me a PBA card. She told me you never just hand it to a cop if you're stopped. Just make sure it's visible when you open your wallet to remove your license. They're trained to observe everything and if they want it, they'll ask for it. I'm a pretty careful driver, though, and I was never stopped during the few years I got the cards.

Well what's the point of having the get out of jail free card if you're never gonna use it!?

What a mess this guy is. The court should seriously boot this guy, give him his deposit (which I think is only $10m, not the $82m the article referenced) back and give it to the highest bidder who actually has a level head.

my buddy gives me and my family pba cards. he tells us to hand it with our license every time we're asked for ID by a cop. he gets annoyed if we don't do it. i assume cops wouldn't take offense or consider it expectant.

Agreed. The problem is that he's the only one who's stepped up with money in hand.

It'll be interesting to see what his secret plans are. He's thrown out so many possibilities through all this.

I think a megachurch/cult sort of setup could do well financially there.

I think if you asked him what his plans were tomorrow, he would just tell you whatever happens to be on his mind at the moment. Ask him again the next day, something completely different. This guy has a serious lack of focus and does not seem competent to run any type of organization that would do anything even close to reviving AC.

i got pulled over once for a really minor thing... im not a person who craps on cops, but this was a really stupid reason to pull me over, it was over about a 10 foot stretch of road - anyway, the guy asked for my license and walked away. i figured he'd see my clean record and let me go, but naturally he came back with a ticket. i said "let me ask you a question, if i offered you a pba card would you take it?" really honest, i didn't know how to do it. he said "yes, but now it's too late."

so im a moron

but to bring this back on topic - im fascinated with the Revel saga. really hope they figure out a way to keep it a casino

Well, one of us was given the wrong advice.

I'd like to see the Showboat open again as a casino though I know, if it did, it wouldn't be the same place.

Some of you might have seen this article about Bart Blatstein's plans for the pier behind Caesar's:

Was told, and have always presented PBA (FOP) cards with license. Does not always result in no ticket. Occasionally a non-moving violation ticket is the result. YMMV.

Certainly they aren't going to pull you out of the car and start beating you for supporting the PBA. Worst cast scenario you get the ticket you would have gotten anyway. Just make sure the card is current, they will berate you for handing them an expired card (in my experience).

I have a metal PBA card with no expiration date on it. It was given to me by a friend who is a police officer. I have only had to use it once in the past 20 years to get out of a speeding ticket.

The police must hand those cards out like candy. It seems like everyone on here has one.

It's funny, I know a few cops personally yet get a card every year from a retired sergeant my dad sold a car to about a decade ago. I think this year was the last hurrah though, need to hit up the others

BOARDWALK UPDATE:

Now that the Revel deal has finally closed, and Straub has made a bid to takeover the Showboat from Stockton College, and Trump Entertainment got the go ahead from its bankruptcy judge to reorganize pending the Union's lawsuit, does it really help Atlantic City?

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/straub...215556074.html

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/judge-...214827462.html

Does any one care?

Will jobs be saved and created?

Do we need the return of additional casino gaming space?

Do we need NEW B&M POKER ROOM(s)?

Do we need additional Hotel Rooms to make a few more comp rooms available?

Answering that, the big question will be Timing. When will any or all these changes impact the Boardwalk?

We all know that a Critical Date is May 22nd, the Friday before Memorial Day when demand for rooms usually increase.

That is only 45 Days away, and there is no physical way to open the doors of the Revel or Showboat Hotel rooms is there? A casino opening would be much farther away?

This will be a test to see how Atlantic City tourist trade in high season will be impacted with Revel, ShowBoat and the Trump Plaza's 3,636 rooms not being available for the first summer.

As it stands, if you are an AC regular and tourists continue to come for the summer sun and sand, rooms will be in short supply and the slots and tables will be busy.

And.... will the remaining Casino/Hotels take advantage by raising rates, offering fewer comps, especially on weekends when they will be fully booked?

Suggestion: Book Early if you are planning to go to the AC shore this summer or expect to get a hotel outside the city.

My only wish would be a large, Borgata-like B&M on the Boardwalk easily reachable by bus (with a convenient schedule to and fro). Or, have Borgata accept busses.

I think that the Borgata made the right decision w/r/t not accepting buses and I hope that they keep it that way. If you need to get to Borgata from the Boardwalk, just take the Jitney. It's really cheap and really easy.
