And a good reason to be in the center of the city is also if you don't drive a car

Thanks for being kind...!

This is what I get for not following the thread. Lol (I don't what's wrong with me lately---I used to be able to snap-call sarcasm a mile away).

I think Asterix hit on some key points---some people just like knowing that, even when they're on vacation, they like having a kitchen, and a living room, and seperate bedrooms and stuff.

The Ocean Club in Atlantic city is pretty nice and very safe, although I don't know if they have summer rentals or if it's strictly just condos. I know it's available if you're a Time Share holder but other than that I'm not sure. Point being for me, is, if there are decent places to rent in AC, then I would go that route, too, but I could also see how staying in the Borgata(for example) would be fun, too.

Brigantine would be the ideal choice imo as it's very close to the Borgata...although renting a place in Brigantine during the peak months would be VERY expensive. I remember when Brigantine used to be cheap...not anymore!

I think I'll just do the 20 minute drive from my house tyvm

Actually, I just looked at a map and Brigantine is closer than I thought. Only about 2-3 miles from Harrah's. On a nice day, definitely walkable. I've walked longer distances than that. Of course, I don't think I'd want to take it on after a long night of playing poker.

Ventnor would be closer if you play at the Boardwalk casinos, plus one of the jitneys goes into Ventnor. At least it used to. Someone on here said they now run only one jitney route, so I don't know if it still goes to Ventnor.

I've lived in both Brigantine and Ventnor, and unless you live at the very beginning of these places, they can actually wind up being double the mileage from the casinos especially if your house is a block or two from Margate. But, is it duable? Yes. But, as you pointed out, after a long night of poker, it really does become a lot less duable. Just isn't the same as going for a nice brisk walk on the boards w/no poker room to get to

Going to AC and play poker with a buddy this weekend, staying at the Borgata (Friday/Saturday).

What poker room rate could we expect (if any)?
Atlantic City General Discussion Quote
03-26-2015 , 04:32 PM
None. Borgata gives discounted/comp rates once you have established play history. There is no poker room rate where if you play 4 hours, you get a special rate.

* there are times where if you play special tournaments, you can get a special rate.

If you don't have a substantial amount of hours logged in already, you're probably looking at around $300-500. The borgata does not give you a discounted rate nor is there a "poker rate" based on ones play for that particular day/weekend.

The only advice I could give you would be to talk to Mabel, she's the poker room's host and she's very easy to talk to; she might not have the pull to help you this visit, but if anything, she' can at least explain how their rating system works. GL

The point of offering free rooms or poker rates is to attract players to your room. When you're, by far, the most popular poker room in AC and you already have more tables going than all other AC rooms combined, why give out comps you don't have to?

My guess is to compete for out-of-towners' business. I'd be just as happy (or sometimes happier) taking a mini-vacation to play at Borgata as I would be playing at MDL (my current local room), but the drive to AC isn't worthwhile for me if I have to pay $200+/night for a room.

Good point. When I play at Harrah's and Showboat (before it closed), besides the regs there were quite a few out of towners (mostly from NY). Unless you have your heart set on Borgata you can get cheaper rooms at other casinos.

Thanks guys, that's been very helpful.

Would Harrahs do a poker room rate?

I believe so, but you should call the room for details. They do have free rooms for 4 hours of play, but not on the weekend. I think, generally, your best deals are going to be during the week. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

harrahs and bally's have a "play for 4 hours get a free room BASED ON AVAILABILITY". if you're going on a weekend, i have only heard of one person getting a room successfully and countless others getting denied. tropicana has a poker rate for 4 or 5 hours play.

Borgata's room offers are by far the best poker players can get in AC, and maybe anywhere? You just have to suck it up and establish your play first. For out of towners, try booking a room at Harrahs online via Total Rewards if you have any play there or via a hotel booking site if you don't. They do have the resort fee now, which sucks, but you can still get a room over there for a total of like $60 a night. It's walkable in good weather, or about a 2 minute drive, over to the Borgata, and you can stay at Harrahs and play at Borgata until you get offers.

To be able to get free weekend rooms in AC in the summer for playing as low as $1/2 is pretty awesome.

no one is getting $60 harrahs rooms on fri or sat unless they play a good amount. better off grtting a room at the Chelsea for cheap

Yeah their prices are way higher than last time I checked - maybe it was due to winter. I can still get Sun-Thurs in the $40-$80 range. Regardless, you can get a decent room for under $100 most of the time in AC between Harrahs, the Claridge, the Chelsea, the Taj (Chairman tower is nice if it's still open, not sure), etc. Then just play at the Borgata and pump up your offers.

Not a lot of great sports bars in AC that I'm aware of. Chickie's and Pete's at the Tropicana is one - it's part of/connected to the casino and on the boardwalk. If you're over by the Marina and don't want to leave, Long Bar at the Borgata will probably have the games on, but it's not a sports bar.

i second chickie and pete's. probably best sports bar in town at the moment in terms of viewing options and decent food. the sports bar in the tropicana quarter upper level is probably the most popular/wildest (lots of young people).

I think that one person was lucky to get a free room on the weekend, as their promo states that it's available during the week, not on weekends.

Looks like the plans for the Showboat are up in the air:

http://6abc.com/education/plan-to-us...-apart/571810/

I always thought that turning it into a college campus was a terrible idea. People don't go to the boardwalk to see a campus.

To all those wondering what is going to happen to the properties where Showboat, Revel, ... used to be, consider the patch of grass where the Sands used to be.
