Mr taco on Chelsea and Atlantic is so freaking good . The decor sucks and it's not kitchy like 3 amigos , but it's freaking chilaquiles and carne asada is kick-ass

Hi all,

Trying to start my live adventure, looking to save up a couple of hundred and then going to AC with a $1000 at 2NL. I can beat the online micros, problem is, it's $40 to get there and come back, not even including food and drink, so i'd have to somehow make my stay worthwhile.

... Is there any way this is actually doable? Would i be able to make up for this loss? It seems like i'd basically have to end up living at, or near a casino, and not just living somewhere 3 hours away where it'd cost me a fifth of a buy in just to play.

TLDR; is it a bad idea to try and stay there for as long as humanly possibly, until i can sufficiently say that losing to gas, food, and rake would eventually become negligible ?

doesn't matter. you won't beat 1/2 for anything worth mentioning, after expenses would probably be way better off flipping burgers somewhere

look at it as a fun trip and don't sweat the details

if you want to approach it seriously, get a job, put aside $10K and play 2/5 with it

If you can really beat online micros you can likely beat live 1/2 for $20 an hour after making adjustments to live play, at least during evenings and weekends.

1k is not nearly a large enough BR to live and play off though. It is probable you won't last very long unless your WR is insane. In which case yes, you should probably be moving to 2/5 asap.

Atlantic City Trip Report
Ocean AC and Golden Nugget

My free rooms in AC have dried up. This is not unexpected since people who put in way more hours than I do at higher stakes also have trouble getting rooms. However I was able to tier match my CET platinum card that I have only because I have the Total Rewards Visa card and I dropped a hundred bucks screwing around on blackjack at Ocean which allowed me to keep my status for a while anyway (I quickly lost it at the Hard Rock but until they have poker I am unconcerned).

I took advantage of a free room in Sunday night. Got there around 5:30 and check in was a breeze. I thought that the rooms when they were Revel were the best in the city. The amenities are sparser as Ocean but the room was still nice.

We heard great things about the burger at Villain & Saint so we eschewed the cheaper Wahlburger to give it a shot. They had happy hour specials but we had to sit at the bar area to get them. We did this though it was annoying.

After a pretty good flatbread with feta, I was surprised that the server told me I pretty much had to get the burger as it came. I wanted to just get a burger with cheddar and grilled onions but that was evidently not possible? $20 for a burger and I cannot even customize it with ingredients they should have anyway?

Worse, when I decided just to get the Chef Burger (which Ms. Native also got), despite ordering it as rare as they could make it, it came out cooked all the way through. I don't send food back very often but this was unacceptable.

Being at the bar, the guy who expedited the orders was right in front of us so we lodged our complaint with him. He was apologetic and said we'd get new burgers in four minutes.

"Make it three," I said jokingly. "We really do like it rare."

Somehow they managed to have the next one but really be rare either. It was kind of between medium rare and medium, but at least it was juicy so we ate it. Honestly it wasn't that great even and I wonder how three separate people in the Ocean thread said it was the best burger they ever had.

We hit the ice cream place and the very nice lady gave me and the wife free cookies because she was a Giants fan and I was wearing my LT jersey. As a Giants fan in Philly, it was one of the few times that I got something more than grief wearing it.

Went up to the room to digest and relax for a bit. Wound up crashing and getting a much later start to the gaming activities as a result, not hitting the casino floor until around 11:30 PM. Immediately I turned $20 in free slot dollars into $36 so I was ahead of the game as I approached the poker room.

I played until 5:30 AM with a couple of table changes as games broke. Some guy sitting next to me caused the floor to change the setup because he picked his nose and touched his cards. Not long afterwards he slow-rolled a guy on a four-spade board when he revealed his six of spades but only after he made sure the other player saw it did he turn over the Ace of spades for the nut flush. He did it to a nice guy and I felt terrible sitting next to this disgusting piece of crap. Didn't get into any hands with him though.

For a six hour session, it was pretty uneventful after I picked up Kings and Aces the first four hands. I never won any huge pots, never had much of my stack at risk. I never was up more than $100 or so and never was down more than $80 or so and concluded the session up $65. Not the best hourly but a win is a win.

Went back to the room and collapsed for a few hours. Woke up a little past ten with ideas to play a tournament. There were only three AM tourneys on the schedule. I can't play at the Borgata due to my day job and when I called the Tropicana they told me with no ambiguity that the weekday morning tourneys never run. So I was off to the Golden Nugget for the $2,500 guarantee $100 bounty event.

I've been on a bad run with tournaments which was discouraging. When you play as infrequently as I do, going several tourneys without a cash can span many months. But I figured I'd do it knowing I was essentially free-rolling.

With one bounty already in hand, I limped in with pocket 7s and a bunch of us saw the flop with was the wettest of wet 678, all diamonds. First to act lead out for a small bet and I raised. I had to protect against draws but also was mindful that many things out there beat me already. One person called and the person who led out called as well.

I begged for the board to pair and it did with a six of clubs. The woman shoved in front of me. With a player to act behind me I took a little more time before calling and was thrilled when he shoved as well. The woman who I covered has a six for trips while the other player flopped a flush with 9J of diamonds. I managed to avoid being beat with a straight flush or quads on the river and took a huge pot and my second bounty.

I won another big hand with all of my chips in the middle pre when my big slick took out KQ and pocket 7s with a King on the river for another bounty and took the chip lead at my table.

When we finally got down to the final table I was around third in chips and stayed there for the most part, stealing some blinds and avoiding trouble. The most amazing hand happened when we were approaching the bubble. A woman directly to my left was very short. UTG I saw pocket nines and raised. She thought about it and shipped it for a little more than the bet. It folded around and I called.

She had sevens so I was in good shape until she flopped quads! Oh well, at least she was a shirt stack. I was eyeballing her stack to figure out exactly how much I owed her when the table had a loud gasp. I looked at the board and saw that the run out was 9-9. Not the easiest way to win a bounty but there are definitely easier ways to get busted out of a tournament!

When we got down to four people the chip-leader suggested a chop. We were all pretty close and I was second place in chips but nobody was short and the chip was for a few bucks more than second place money so I took it. Cashed in $552 and also had five $25 bounties (including my own). Off the tournament schneid!

I hadn't eaten anything all day except for some jelly beans that the wife picked up for me at It's Sugar (our AC tradition) so I was starved. We were gonna grab a burger at the burger bar there (wanted a good burger to make up for the previous debacle) however the server flat out said they only cook burgers well done. No thanks.

Instead we splurged and went to Vic & Anthony's the steakhouse. We split calamari which was a huge portion perfectly fried and hot. I got the 14 oz strip Pittsburgh Rare and the wife got the Tuna and we split asparagus. It was splendid, well worth the $180 with tip. Our server Bryan was excellent as well.

I am hopeful that six hours of play at Ocean was enough to merit future weekday rooms from Ocean. If it is, we will definitely try and make it to the shore again, especially when the weather gets nicer.

Wow, what a hand with 99. A real bad beat that it didn't happen in a cash game with a nice jackpot.

+1. After hearing so many of the Ocean regs saying that the burger at V&S is the best and is definitely worth it despite the price, I decided to try it out. When I ordered it, the bartender said it was the 2nd best burger in NJ. It was just OK to me. I didn't see what the big deal was. I'd take a Five Guys burger over it any day.

Nice TR NYC! Crazy about the quads over quads. Congrats on the win and on your good decision to spend some of the winnings on a quality steak instead of what was sure to be a mediocre burger.

Sorry to hear about your burger. Ive had about 20 chef burgers, always order medium, no jam, with broccoli instead of fries. Most the times it comes closer to rare which is fine by me. Its so dang delicious

the only way I've managed to get any high quality Thai food in Atlantic City is by doing favors for a Thai poker dealer. There's
a good Vietnamese restaurant,
Com Ga Ninh Kieu, at 1124 Atlantic
and S Carolina across from the Rite Aid, which
Is now a Walgreens, one block from
Hard Rock Casino. Also of interest, there is a
Brand new high quality Chinese restaurant,
Similar in quality to Zhen Bang Noodle
And Sushi at Ocean Resort Casino,
On 28 S Tennessee between Pacific and
Atlantic, next to the opiod detox building and
across from the happy ending
Massage parlor and the Nation of
Islam Mosque No. 10, study space.
Best of luck finding a parking space.

Frank, come back and convince Hard Rock (or maybe even Showboat now that they are adding a casino) to open a poker room and then run it!

You are definitely missed in AC

It's open space with some memorabilia, that (as noted above) is used for promotional giveaways. It also serves as an entryway to the arena.

I feel like I am in the twilight zone hearing about the sub par reviews of the Villain and Saint chef burger. It is the best burger I have ever had in my entire life and I've had a ton of burgers.
