This thread is for discussion of news/events in the other areas of Texas not covered by specific Regional Threads, as well as a place to ask questions about poker in those areas. This is also the place for discussions about the smaller card rooms in the areas that do not warrant an individual venue thread.

Kojacks in Midland is under new ownership--taken over by TCH ownership group. Early indications are very favorable as they have dropped hourly charge from whopping Texas leading $16/hr to $13/hr. Have also been text marketing to old members who haven't been around for a while. New tournament schedule. All in all, has led to many new faces and new old faces. They have successfully restocked the fish tank for now. Still great action. Foundational game is a single blind NLHE game with $5 blind on the button. Unique blind situation, to my knowledge West Texas is the only place that does this. Initial new table buyin limited to $800 but goes to 75% stack match after that. Double board PLO $10 ante bomb pots at every dealer change, but with $300 cap unless table unanimously agrees to remove cap.

ROE ($5 button also runs, usually on weekends, and $25 on the button Big O runs a couple nights a week as well.

Very good action.

New owners are in process of opening an Odessa Kojacks location. Should be open soon once staff is hired and trained is my understanding.

All in all, pretty good poker in west Texas-Permian Basin. The region with the hot oil and gas play in the United States always has good poker, and at the moment that is the Permian Basin.

I confirm the great action at this club. I did a seminar there just under a year ago, and the games were amazing. During the livestream I played in, I was doing commentary while waiting for a seat. The main commentator put up the VPIP graphic. We had two players at about 35%, two players over 80%, and the other five players were between 50-75%. They were calling raises with hands like JJJ5.

There's a new club that opened up in the San Antonio area, Brooklyn Squad Card Parlour. Anyone have feedback on the place?

I was told San Antonio is the Big O capital of the world can anyone from the area testify to that? I'm curious about details as well, how many rooms run it, how often, what stakes? Thanks!

I heard it used to be but that it's not what it once was. I believe Rounders was the primary location for Big O action but heard someone pissed off a specific demographic that were action players and they went to private games. I cannot verify as I'm up in Austin so don't play in San Antonio. But I believe a lot of games switched to Big O/PLO mix to stay running.
