Re: Arizona Poker Thread

There's two tables running at Gila during peak times, but mostly just one.

The food at CAZ is vastly better -- the Fatburger at Gila not withstanding.

tbh, i only ever went to gila once, and it was one of the first times i ever played live poker.... I didn't hate it, but i somehow seemed to get lost every time i try to get there (was fairly new to phoenix) and eventually settled on CA and the fort because they were easier to find...

I guess i should at least give it a try now that online poker has apocalypsed itself.

does gila have a 1/2 game? I'd really rather stick wtih a 1/2 game than a 2/3 game for starting out.

Re: Arizona Poker Thread

Quick reviews:

Fort McDowell: Decent promos and $1 an hr cash comp for playing but virtually the only game they have is 3-6. It does have a real home-game feel but that's because the player pool is so small, with many of the same regs there every day. They also have lots of small buy-in tourneys. Rake is 2+3 to fund all the promos. If your game is 3-6 and <$50 buy in tourneys then this is your place. Otherwise, no reason to play here.

Casino Arizona: The place to play poker in the Phoenix area. They spread tons of games and have an extremely large and relatively fishy player pool at the low/mid limits. Bad sides are rake is relatively high (4+2 or 4+1 sometimes), and comps are so-so (20 cents an hr + a $5 meal ticket for every 8 hrs of play).

Gila River: I only visited here once. It's a mid sized poker room and I went at about 2pm on a weekday. They had a bunch of 3-6 and 4-8 games with one 8-16. No SL going but that might've been because there was also a tourney going. No comps but you get 1/2 off the food menu. Rake is 3+2. I'm going to try to play here in a week or two so I can give an update.

Strip mall cardrooms: Never played at any of these because I don't think it's worth it. Their legal status is up in the air and they've been raided before. I also assume the player pool in these is less fishy than your typical casino. Only good thing is rake is pretty low.

naw i was actually really hungry. i looked at the menu and it looked good but wasn't feeling it. i'll be back there saturday morning when I can play for a while.

i hate eating at the table, and the wait list had grown significantly since I had got in it. i wouldn't have really had the time to get food then get back in the list ><

+1 eating at the table is gross. I'm not a fan of most of the food there but the pot stickers and the hot dog are pretty good and easily eaten with utensils.

Re: Arizona Poker Thread

In these spread limit games is the limit a per bet cap, a per street cap, or a per pot cap? I don't really understand the spread limit thing.

It's per bet. and HU there is unlimited # of bets, otherwise bet and 3 raises. Actually the cap almost never matters below 5-10.

I heard a rumor that a 4/8 HORSE game has been going at Ft. McDowell some evenings but have been too lazy to confirm this myself. Has anyone else heard of/seen this?

Re: Arizona Poker Thread

Just did some research and my answers are still unanswered, so I feel that this will be the appropriate thread to ask them.

What casinos in AZ are 18+?

I am going to college in Prescott starting August, I will be 19, and I am wanting to find some poker establishments before I am there.

Re: Arizona Poker Thread

They are all 21+ as far as I know. Ft. McDowell was 18+ when I turned 18 but I think they changed it at some point.

None are 18+ as far as casinos go. Poker rooms on the other hand can vary i do believe.

Poker rooms like the Commerce and Bicycle Club or a room inside of the casino where you can be younger?

Again, I looked online for about 30min. and I found absolutely nothing...

Someone came up to the floor at CAZ in the last week or so and was asking about a low limit mixed game, think he was playing 8/16 Omaha. From what I could pick up, it seemed the floor seemed uninterested in spreading it even if they had enough interest.

Re: Arizona Poker Thread

Has anyone ever played at Vee Quiva? Do they get nl?

Outbound to LV: 7:00 leaving at noon from PHX. That includes a great stop at Eat at Joe's Barbecue in Wikiup and a not so great wrong turn in Boulder City that led to me taking Horizon Ridge Dr to the strip.

Homebound: 5:45 leaving the V at 2am. Restrained myself from "one more for the road" at the casino near the Dam.

I did a search and couldn't find any info. Does anyone know what games and limits are typically spread at Harrah's ak-chin. Do they ever get 2/5NL?

Thanks in advance.

as of the last time i was there (a couple of years ago), the room was pretty tiny. I dont recall ever every seeing anything there besides 3-6 and 4-8 LHE. I think someone told me once that they have a semi-reg 4-8LO8 game. Given the typical crowd there (older), would be v surprised to hear they had even an occassional nl game

You get 3/6 limit HE and they play a mix limit game on certain nights of the week. It's too far out of the way to be a good poker room - there are places to play closer to the population center of the metro area.

But hey, the new hotel is nice.

It's a great place to swipe your HET card if you have to go 6 months without a Vegas run. That grubbing corporation will cancel your points , whereas the Orleans honored my points from 2008 over a 3 year hiatus

ive also been told by several people that if youre looking for tier status or just general HET comp lovin that the pit bosses for the table games there are normally pretty good about hooking up their regualr or even occassional players

Re: Arizona Poker Thread

I keep stopping in to redeem mailers for other comps, and 1/2NL seems to be going more and more frequently, albeit with about $1000 total on the table.

Also, the drink policies at the table are much nicer. They can, apparently, give four drinks per gaming day, with an hour (or half an hour?) between drinks.

The OPS 3-6 mix game runs 3-4 nights a week, minimum.

We should probably add the 2-100 O8 game to the spread sheet. Not sure how to go about updating it or where to add it. But its a great game.
