I like the structure - 20 min blinds, and $50 per knock out bounty. They skip a couple of mid blind levels so it jumps up in a few spots, but overall I like it.

I'm still waiting for someone to come out with a $75 buy-in tourny; it's bizarre that there aren't any at that level; less than $50 or more than $100, but nothing in between that I know of.

It's a good tourney- played in it this evening. They also run the same thing on Sundays at noon. 15k stacks, no rebuy no addon.

Hey y'all! I didnt even know there was a strong poker scene in Arizona! I'm a dealer from Atlantic City and I'm looking into possible relocation opportunities. Can anybody give me any info on the prospect of dealing in Arizona? As always, it would be much appreciated and who knows, maybe sometime soon, I could be pushing u monster pots while running a super clean, very efficient game, with a smile, a little personality and a lot of professionalism!

Does CAZ regularly spread any mid limit mixed games? Any mixed games on a regular period?

That's right... I completely forgot about Sunday.

How did you do, by the way?

I've only played in it twice - first time got 1 bounty, last time, nothing good - my AA got beat by KK. I'd like to play it again soon.. but probably can't until sometime late in November.

It's hit or miss, depending on who's there and will be at least 40-80.

So, funny (odd, peculiar) story.

So I went to Harrah's last night to pick up my TV -- me and every other degenerate gambler with a Diamond card -- and found myself sitting in the 3-6 Omaha/Pineapple/Stud game last night.

Not to 'out' anyone, but I'm sure a few regulars will know who they are....

So we're sitting at about 9:30pm or so, and for the second time that night, because of the small number of tables, the dealer who rotates to our table is the spouse of the player in the 9 seat. By new (or rather, newly enforced) casino rule, the player in the 9-seat has to sit out. [Poker room rules allow him to remain clocked in for hours, however.] This is the second time that it happened in the night, but this time, things get interesting.

The two-seat, a well known, very vocal, "action" (relative to the game limits, of course) player decides that if the one seat is going to be forced to sit out, he's going to sit out. [We're 7-handed without him, and going to Stud anyway...] The dealer, not wanting to make a fuss, gets ready to deal. The 5-seat, thinking he has his minimum hours for the freeroll promotion, decides now's a good time to rack, and goes to the podium. 4/5ths of the table is willing to play 5-handed, but the 5th person stops that plan.

The table now decides to have the floor person call the casino manager to make their case -- that none of us care if the 9-seat sits in the game. [I mostly don't care for the drama, and would have played 7,6 or 5 handed. ...even 4, knowing that we'd get through a few hands and the dealer's spouse's down would end.] The 5-seat returns, still needing minutes for the freeroll; but now the table is chanting "Attica! At-tic-ca! Attica!" and 5-handed play isn't going to happen. After 10 minutes of waiting, I give up and hit the slots. I watch the casino manager show up and tell the table no. The table breaks, and I cash out up $7 of pure gleaming poker profit.

----

In other news, the players were still steaming about a floor decision on a Stud hand and a kill pot.

The game is played with no ante(!), and this particular hand is a kill. Normally, of course, the low card would be responsible for the $1 bring-in, but the kill procedure is that the killer opens for the kill, then action proceeds from him on 3rd street, with no care for the low card.

The killer, who, for purposes of this story will be seat 1 puts $6 on the kill button and the cards are dealt. The #2 seat sees a tiny door card and places $1 in the pot, incorrectly realizing that it's a kill pot. Seats #3 and #4 fold. Seat #5 pipes up that it's a kill. <heated discussion happens> Floor rules that player #2 must put $5 more in the pot, no other action possible.

While I'm not deeply bothered by the decision -- I think it's a possible decision -- it's important to note that this is a small room, and the OPS-mix game there is 90% regulars, all of whom are on a first name basis with each other. The #2 seat is a older, very well known local (and to some extent) celebrity in certain circles. No player at the table objected to surrendering the $1 (or any number of other options). In short, to maintain the "integrity" of what's nearly a home game, the floor made a fairly harsh ruling. Even if it was right, it left the players using the floor's name in a bad light for the next day.

----

Next month, Harrah's has an even MORE obscenely profitable freeroll going on. This month's was nearly free money. Next month, I suspect even more so...

Went to WHP for the first time in a couple of months last night. 1/2 drink specials are gone on Fri and Sat, as is A's cracked > 10PM (not sure if this is still active during the week, though, like the drink specials still are).

The room was 1/2 full at peak hrs on a Fri before a holiday week. The last time I was there, it was at near 100% capacity with tons of drunkards and casual players. This time, however, I didn't encounter a single person that I didn't recognize during 75 mins of brutally boring play.

They have made a bad thing worse, and now that there's no lower priced liquor, there's zero incentive for me to go.

Has anyone driven from Phoenix to LV on the new bridge? Does it save a bit and how long does it take now?

Drive saves plenty of time. No more detouring through Laughlin.

Cuts at least 30 mins off your drive.

Would anyone here be interested in trying to get a 15-30 limit holdem game going at wild horse pass sometime? They've told me they'd be happy to run it if some people wanted to play and I'd love it if us Arizonians had an option between 8-16 and 20-40.

Tell me when, and if I am available, I would be happy to play you live vs. on FTP where you are a luckbox.

I don't know if it's that much. Maybe if you would otherwise be stuck behind a flock of Winnebagos, or you're driving one yourself. If the road is clear it saves you 5 or 10 minutes.

10 W to quartsite and then hang a right. How dark was it? Well on the Cali side I had no idea if I was driving through a forest or a desert.

Just got back from a RT Tempe-LV [no sleep last night obv] using the normal route where each leg took just under 6 hours, for different reasons. Outbound getting delayed by valley traffic obv. Return started out by driving north!?

When you get there you think "Damn, did I just cross the dam?" You're at that small truck stop casino in a flash.

But pick your times carefully. LV NPR did a piece on how they didn't make the bridge long enough and there's a chokepoint in Boulder City at that stop light where the highway turns NW. The mayor said the entire town is gridlocked on peak hours back across the bridge. The scientist said the environmental impact studies to correct it will take about 10-15 years

I suppose I meant, "Who would take such a route?!?"

I actually find the Wickenberg/Wikieup/Kingman/Dam route quite nice. Maybe it's just having been driving it for 20 years that I appreciate how much nicer it is today than it was back then. It used to pretty much be one lane each direction for the entire trip, except for quick passing lanes here and there. Now it's almost the opposite.

Back in the day, getting stuck behind a long enough parade of old recreational vehicles and diesel trucks was a death sentence -- travel speaking, anyway.

I mean, worst case scenario is if the dam is 100% clear with no traffic then the bridge saves you 10 mins. But the dam was never ever ever clear. I easily made the drive in 4:15 (clear bridge, some minor construction slowage before the bridge) and I can't remember a time in the last 5 years that it's been less than 4:55 going over the dam.

I'd consider playing, but only on a Fri or Sat night, when there would be a much greater chance of LAGgy donks from the 8/16 joining in. There's something about playing with strictly 2+2'ers that doesn't seem too enticing (AKA +EV) to me...

I'm thinking about going to the Ft. Mcdowell deep stack/bounty tournament tomorrow night, never played there before. Any thoughts on that tournament or the Fort Mcdowell poker room?

I think these would be the obvious days to try to get it going. I'm going to head over there today and see if I can talk to one of the managers to see if they would agree to advertise such a game for a week or so to try to get some people and also how shorthanded they'd start it if we got the interest.

What days are best for you Pope? They are pretty cool about this kind of thing. I have played 8-16 a couple times late in the night 3 handed where they charged no rake as long as we took care of the dealers.

Sorry this is a day late, but I really like that tournament. Did you end up playing?
