Is there any reason to play 8/16 or 1/2 hold em at anywhere besides CAZ? I've never been to any of the other casinos and CAZ is close to where I live. Wondering if I should bother to go visit anywhere else. I hear Ft. McDowell has decent low buy in tourneys though.

I do hate the lighting and cards of CAZ (and rake is high) but rake is similar everywhere and otherwise isn't much of a reason to drive anywhere else.

I think you save a buck on rake at GIla. Ironically they only get one game of each usually and sporadically.

Bringing up the general Arizona thread to talk about this:

Has anyone discussed the upcoming rake increase at Gila - to match the 4+2 at CAZ?

REally? They had two 8 - 16 games this weekend with some familiar faces from CAz. I thought the less outrageous rake might be the reason.

There was another thread that talked about Gila, and I mentioned that an older gentleman talked about how he heard this rumor. I hope it doesn't go up...

Does Gila ever get a 2/5 (or 3/5) spread game going?

If I was them I'd raise the rake. Why not? As I hear they haven't had an appreciable increase in business due to CAZ's increased rake, players still show up at CAZ and the complaining about the rake increase there has nearly stopped. So why not soak us suckers for more?

Well, it was a matter of time, I think.

So, reading the article, that was Ace High out in near-Sun-City.

...there are other clubs in town that claimed an affiliation with "The Judge" (read: Ex-JOP).

This is interesting because "The Judge" is being indicted for taking a cut of the money for offering his useless advice to them.

----

Back to the 4+2 at Gila, still no Gila dealers commenting...

...perhaps it's just a rumor.

I'm trying to get a grasp on the Arizona social gambling laws. I think it says 'no entry fee' which suggests no buy-in, but it could mean no rake. It's kind of stupid to say that you can have social gambling but you cannot buy in, but I wouldn't put it past them.

check this for some clarification:
http://www.gambling-law-us.com/State-Laws/Arizona/

2. "Conducted as a business " means gambling that is engaged in with the object of gain, benefit or advantage, either direct or indirect, realized or unrealized, but not when incidental to a bona fide social relationship.

sorry to not pop in here as i have moved to the promised land (lv). the fort was running spread limit the last like 5 times i was in there which was always during the week so im assuming it runs a decent amount. but probably not all day. i would honestly update the list to show it runs spread limit occasionally. and AFAIK it was 250 max buyin. young kids would walk around the room and ask people that looked their age (me) to come play.

as far as the tourneys they were running 40 dollar tourneys something like every other day when i was in there. tues, thurs, sat, sun. plus 10 dollars for the dealers for 1k in chips bonus. hadnt heard about the one hour $6 dollar tourney thing but it sounds like something they would do. as for quality of play super super super fishy. drunk people. laughable play. i would highly recommend it. and they also run freerolls too but call the room for info.

Gila the last 3 times I went had one spread game going, I think with a 5$ bb. One time was just last weekend where I was quite impressed at the amount of money on the table. List was long and I couldn't get in.

To clarify what goes on at the fort. They have 2 tourneys daily- 1pm & 7pm. Most of them are bounty tourneys- $30 buyin + 10$ add on. Bountys are $5/$10/$20/$50 depending on if you play 0/1/2/3+ hrs live that day before the tourney. The bounties obviously come from the player prize pool rather than the buyins.

There are a few decent players but for the most part it's a pretty fishy time. Typical weeknites is 50-60 players. Weekend is 100+. Tonite was 104 I think.

But they're not all the 40$ bounty tourneys--
The sunday 1pm is a $115 deepstack freezeout. I think weds they're both Omaha, and the Saturday nite is a $5 unlimited rebuy (for 2 hrs) donkfest, with a $5k splash- but you have to play 1hr live to enter.

I'm there about 3-4 times a week, trying to win enough to keep up with what my wife loses at let-it-ride... sigh..

In town for a couple days. Got in tonight. I know its a monday at 10pm but is it standard at CAZ for there to be no 20-40 or 40-80 going and seemingly no list? First time to CAZ, do those games go at certain times or only certain days? Games in question are 20-40 holdem 40-80 holdem and the mix game 40-80 or 75-150 or whatever it is. Info would be great. Thanks.

New Gila River rake is as follows...

$2 when the pot reaches $10.

Another $2 when the pot reaches $30.

Comparison to old rake:

Old
$1 at 5
$1 at 10
$1 at 20

New
$2 at 10
$2 at 30

Interesting in that pots between 20-29 dollars are actually raked less under the new system. Takes a little sting out for the 3/6 and 4/8 crowd. (Don't try and misquote me as saying a rake increase is good for players.)

The jackpot drop remains unchanged.

I don't blame them at all, I would've done the same since they apparently didn't pick up any extra business off of CAZ's increased rake.

I played at Fort McDowell for the first time today and the rake there is 2+3, as in the house rakes $2 and then $3 goes to the promotional fund. And they have TONS of promotions that they do with the $3. The main problem is they only spread 3-6, and 4-8 on most days and the location is far for most people. It also seems more like a social club than a casino. I'd say it's almost all regulars and the dealers seem less "professional" than at CAZ which isn't a bad thing, just they seem to act a lot more casual than most dealers. Fort McDowell is also a lot dirtier than CAZ.

I played the daily $30 at Fort McDowell today, pretty mediocre structure and field, but the crazy thing is that for a $30 tourney if you play in the cash games for 3 hrs prior you get a $50 bounty for knocking out each person. Sounds extremely +EV.

They charge 2+3 rake in the cash games and that $3 goes to tons of crazy promotions like that.

Sometimes I wonder why The Fort keeps its poker room. I live in Fountain Hills which is right next to the Res and drop by every now and then when mom wants her slot fix. They may have 2 cash game tables going. Too bad bec if they had any decent action I'd have it a lot easier.
