As I understand it; CAZ is making us take a 4 hour break from poker so we can do our taxes on our 'winnings'

So what's the rake at various places?

Casino Arizona: 4 + 2
Gila - Wild Horse Pass: 3 + 2
Harrah's Ak-Chin: 3 + 2
Fort McDowell: ???

Is there any decent card room that has a 3 +1?

I was playing the 4/8 at CAZ for a few hours the other day and man after about 3 hrs two people who started with big stacks were down to almost nothing. It wasn't all cause of the rake but still pretty depressing nonetheless.

How do the 6-12 and 8-16 games play at CAZ compared to the 4-8? On a Sat afternoon they had about 7 tables of 3-6 and 4-8 and only 1 table each for 6-12, 8-16 and i think they had a 20-40 and 40-80 also.

No there is no 3+1 anywhere.

The spread game at Gila is now played with blinds of 1 and 2 and a mandatory $5 to bring it in. It plays pretty big. More like a 2-5 game.

Players comps have been changed slightly. Now 16 hours in a week qualifies you for a weekly 2500 dollar freeroll. 100 players max.

How are the games at the fort and gila? I've been meaning to go and play somewhere else for a while but action has been good at CAZ and I've been having some really good sessions. Plus my table hit the BBJ yesterday so I guess that counts as rakeback for the next couple of weeks.

So, to attempt to bump the consolidated thread, and to provide feedback for you employees of the various rooms, here's some un-scientific information gathered by the new-to-poker person sitting next to me at a bar game last night. [Yes, I'm still sitting in my friends bar league while he gets it going. Propping a zero-limit game sucks. He owes me big-time.]

Among the players at my table (a dozen or so people over the course of the game), the new CAZ was widely regarded as dark, empty, and the televisions were regarded as laughable. Gila was regard, overall, as the nicest room among the mostly unsophisticated crowd, but the casino itself was questioned as shady (which I doubt of course, but it was an interesting comment from the gallery). One player (other than myself) commented that he was a Harrah's fan, and easily regarded them as the nicest [read: friendliest, most pleasant] - as a new player was looking for recommendations. This unscientific poll was conducted about 2-3 miles from Gila, so results may vary.

Can you elaborate about the state of the current room there so I can make changes to the spreadsheet?

I currently show them with 30 unconfirmed tables, 3/6 and 4/8 hold'em running regularly, and 4/8 Omaha running regularly.

I should add a "sometimes" checkmark for 1/2 spread -- and do you have details on it? min/max buyin, max-bet 250 or 500?

I went once and lost 500$ playing 3-6 limit HE... Really the Ft suffers from location. There has to be a compelling reason for people to drive out there and one spread limit table isn't going to cut it.

The Fort will never be a major poker destination in the metro area until they decide it is more important to attract new players and stop trying to only please their small group of regulars.

INteresting promotion at Gila that kept me up another 3 hours is free food. Two days a week they give one free order of food from 9-noon for anyone sitting in a poker game. No minimum time required.

I think Wednesday is one of the days.

If I ever write a poker book there will be a large chapter detailing the love affair poker players have w/ free food.

Can you get deposit boxes at any of our poker room casinos?

OT I notice that a "local boy" won an event at Binions. Congratulations Ryan of Scottsdale.

Ill be in Phoenix Sunday night in 2 weeks, with a female friend. Which CAZ location do you guys recommend? She'll want to chill at the pool while I play during the day. Anything fun to do on a Sunday night at these casinos? We are already set to sleep in Tempe near Mill Ave on Saturday. Thanks!

Only the Indian Bend location has poker. Dimly lit poker. If 'Poker After Dark' wasn't already taken they could've used that name for their poker room.

Fun stuff? You could play blackjack in the dark. Seriously, I don't know why anybody plays BJ there, whenever I pass by the tables I can barely see the cards. Maybe you'd like the buffet. There's also a decent bar w/o video slots built into it. I give them credit for at least that much: They have a decent bar w/o video games built into it.

I'm currently -1,100 playing splash pots. and yet I still try to be there 10 hours to play them all.

I'm one of the only players that folds in splash pots. In each one I'd have lost had I played. Funniest splash pot line (at Gila River): Everybody limps, I fold 9-3o in the CO. The woman on my right says 'How could you fold? I called and I didn't even look at my cards!' 'What if you have a raising hand?', I asked. 'Why would I raise? Nobody is going to fold!'

lmao.

Well it all depends on the stakes and splash pot size. I'm assuming you were in the 8/16 game for a 50 dollar splash, in which case, folding complete trash wouldn't be unheard of. I see it plenty in that case.

Definite lol @ the "why raise no one will fold" line. I hear that literally every single day during a splash pot. It amazes me that people play the game so much and have no idea what makes a raise profitable and what does not.

One thing I do in nl is put a min raise hoping that people will clue in and put in 2 more min raises which will cap the betting before the shoving starts. No one has caught on. I'd tell them but it would look like collusion.
