How about SL HE games at WHP? I usually drive to CAZ,but WHP would cut off half an hour both ways. Any 3-5 or 5-10 games? If so specific nights?

Hey guys,

Im moving to Phx soon and looking to build my roll. What are my options, i would like to start with the 1/2 or 1/3.

I was thinking the low rake card rooms to start, but have heard some mixed things about them. I remember playing at "The Nuts Card Room" a couple times, when i was down there for a weekend. Then saw they got raided a couple months later.

This is sketch, but when i played there, there was a lot of action, and felt like it would be a great place to build a beginning roll of 1/2. Low rake and fishy action in the cash games. I was thinking about going to one of the other card rooms. I cant get in any legal trouble playing at the other rooms tho right?

Anyways, what do you think are my best options via, Club, Casino, Home Games in Phoenix?

Thank you.

I saw on the Bravo Poker Android app that Ak-Chin had a 3/6 mixed game going the other day. Does anybody have any info about it? How often it goes, what games, etc?

Never spent a summer in Phurnace?

Oh man ... if I was ever to live there again, from day one, I would have a plan to gtf out of town ASAP.

At any rate, I doubt you'll find more than the action that is at TSR, and you know it's all totally legit. Comps on your card. Home games ... yeah I never knew of anything serious. I know some home games in Tucson, again, not serious.

Any good bars in Tempe people could suggest for microbrews, karaoke, and/or St. Patrick's Day hilarity for the weekend of 3/17?

If you don't mind heading a little bit north (Scottsdale Rd & McDowell) go to Papago Brewing. It's the best beer bar in the valley. About 30 great taps & over 100 great bottles. No karaoke though.

These are all very good suggestions - albeit [mostly] college-crowd hangouts.

Doesn't diminish the beer, however.

Cars don't rust here in Arizona, but prepare for the heat to break your car. I remember when I lived in Mesa, I had a 95 Jeep Wrangler. And it was just sitting there, parked in the shade and it got to like 122 that day. The gas tank, due to the heat, expanded and cracked ... dealer only part ... 95 gas tank, cost like $700 to fix.

(Also, for like the year I lived in that apartment complex, my Jeep got broken onto like 5 times).

So I played the noon tournament at Harrah's Ak-Chin today just to do something different. I talked with some of the staff who claim that a 5-10 mix game and 5-10 LHE have been going occasionally, along with a 2-500 spread limit game some evenings. Apparantly playing in a 5-10 game is worth more tier points or whatever for Harrah's.

I think they said Tue, Thu and Sun is when the mix game has been going, although I think it's sometimes 3-6. The mix is the one it's always been there: Omaha8, Stud8 and pineapple8.

I also noticed they have moved their poker room to a different location in the casino since the last time I went there. There are now 6 tables although it's hard to imagine them ever all being used. They seemed amazed at the 39 player turnout for today's tournament and wouldn't have been able to start a 5th table due to lack of dealers.

I cashed in the tournament for a whopping $87 profit.

I had been playing that mix game semi-regularly. If it's going 5-10, I'll have to re-visit it.

Started out with $3/6 mixed game last night. Eventually they opened a 2nd table which was $5/10 mixed. It eventually killed the $3/6 game.

Tuesday night (after the tournament) still the most likely night for it to run?

If so, I'll consider a visit on Tuesday.

I was at Wild Horse last night and noticed 3 names on a list for both 4-8 mix and 8-16 mix. I added my name to the 8-16 but neither game started by the time I left around 1:30.

I'd love if a low limit mix game ever started there or anywhere else around the city. Casino AZ personnel have told me that they wouldn't spread the game even if we had enough players, due to it not collecting enough in rake.

I think Ft. McDowell was getting a 4-8 mix as recently as last year. I think that a 4-8 or 8-16 mix could sustain itself if word got around: many players I have talked to in the 8-16 holdem and omaha games at CAZ have expressed interest.

I'm thinking about trying to get a list of maybe 30 people or so that I could text some night to try to get one going. I may be too lazy to follow through though.

Did they say why it would be less profitable that the 8/16 holdem and omaha games? Just because stud hands are a bit slower? I thought they had a stud hilow game anyway. Also, are all their tables typically full? If they have an empty table and a dealer sitting around anyway it isn't costing them anything.

I don't understand their reasoning with it, but that is what I have been told. Yes, they used to have a regular 3/6 stud and 6/12 stud8 game. They are rare now although I think they may still go once in a while on Sundays.

Maybe it's because they figure it will take a long time with people being confused about what game it is or dealers making mistakes or something. I'm really not sure.

Either way, I think this would be a real draw if Wild Horse wanted to give people an extra reason to go there. Of course, first they may need to hire more dealers. I was there at one point tonight and there were lists 10+ for 3-6, 4-8, 8-16 and 2-100. There were 8 empty tables and apparantly not enough dealers working to start another. On a Saturday evening...

Considering how bad the board was being run last night, their inability to start a "non-standard" game doesn't shock me one bit.
