Any tournaments going anywhere yet?

I see dates posted for the AZ State Poker Championship and satellites too. Any news that's not on the website?

Oops, guess that was for 2019. Anyone hear anything about 2021?

Have any casinos announced plans to run Vegas-style sportsbooks? With all the non-casino and mobile options you won't even need to go to a casino to bet but it'd be cool to have.

The only metro area tribe that has announced a betting partnership is the Gila River Indian Community (Wild Horse Pass / Vee Quiva), who are partnering with BetMGM. I assume that the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (Casino Arizona / Talking Stick Resort) will be acquiring a license as well.

I got emails from Wynn and Caesars for "online" sportsbooks. I guess they are now, or soon will be, operational.

"Online" meaning using smartphone apps. Don't know if you can use the internet.

Yep, I think they are open for business in less than 2 weeks. Now I don't have to try to get crypto into an offshore account.

Are the AZ tribal casinos contracting it out to the big Vegas names?

I'm seeing ads for the online sportsbooks. They're giving away a ton of no deposit free play if you sign up before Sept 9: $200 from BetMGM, $100 from Caesars, $75 from FanDuel and $150 from DraftKings = $525.

It seems like the Salt River Pima-Maricopa tribe that runs Casino Arizona didn't get a license so they won't be doing sports betting.

lol @ them if that is true.

I heard rumors of them moving the poker room to make that the sportsbook and building a new building for the poker room and having it in a tent in the meantime.

I opened a Caesars account and contacted their live chat support about the promos and the person I talked to didn't seem to know much about them, told me to read the T&C and then disconnected the chat. William Hill runs the Caesars sportsbook. Are they a legit company? Seemed super shady.

16 tribes applied for the 10 sports betting licenses available to tribes. Both Gila River Casinos and Casino Arizona didn't get licenses, even though Gila River previously announced a partnership with BetMGM. BetMGM also has a partnership with the Cardinals so they didn't need Gila River to be able to operate.

Seems weird that the two biggest casino groups in the state didn't get licenses. Did they not apply? Or was there some kind of behind the scenes shenanigans to deny them licenses? Or did the commission want to give the licenses to smaller tribes, even some without any casinos, to even the playing field against the larger ones?

right-click search says:

https://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/...s-betting.html

Arizona Cardinals – BetMGM
Arizona Coyotes - no partner
Arizona Diamondbacks – William Hill/Caesars Sportsbook
Arizona Rattlers – Rush Street Interactive/Bet Rivers
Phoenix Mercury – Ballys
Phoenix Raceway/NASCAR – Penn National Gaming/Barstool Sportsbook
Phoenix Suns – FanDuel
TPC Scottsdale/PGA Tour – DraftKings

tribes and associated casinos with licenses and their sportsbook operator partners:

Ak-Chin Indian Community
Ft. McDowell Yavapai Nation
Fort Mojave Indian Tribe – SuperBook Sports
Hualapai Tribe – Golden Nugget
Navajo Nation
Quechan Tribe – Unibet Arizona
San Carlos Apache Tribe – Wynn
San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe – Digital Gaming
Tonto Apache Tribe – Churchill Downs
Tohono O’odham Nation

If Gila River Indians can partner with a license holder despite not being granted a license themselves, I assume the Salt Rivers can do the same.

It was an interesting decision by the state to say there will be only 20 licenses, have of which are reserved for tribes. I suspect it was crafted to defend against a tribal lawsuit.

William Hill is a big name sportsbook operator. They run a few (at least) of the Vegas Strip sports books.

That list looked weird, separate listings for Ballys and Caesars. The Ballys must be the "real" Ballys?

So that "free" money can be used on bets? Not just a juice discount?

Yes, it's free money to bet and there is no playthrough requirement or restrictions on withdrawing any winnings.

Supposedly WynnBet will be launching too with a $200 no deposit bonus.

You can make bets and everything from websites? Cool!

I mean, dammit. Part of what was keeping me "sober" was the long trip to Vegas to make bets.

Would any of you play more at Lone Butte if they didn’t have pre flop rake. Trying to figure out why TSR can get 10+ 3-300+ games and Lone Butte can only get 1 or 2 2-200+ tables if they’re lucky. They moved into a big nice room and it’s still truck stop poker.

My reasoning is opening to $15 at 2-3 talking stick and taking down $4 in dead money is much more attractive than opening to $15 at 2-2 and taking down $2. Both 600max cap games.

If it stops the damned commercials, bring it. Seriously, 2-3 commercials per break are for the new books. Plus radio ads, billboards, every sports venue has posters, etc.
I mean, it's ridiculous.

Is an untapped market worth that much?

Got any good tips on the games this weekend?

Does anyone know how the action is in Tuscon poker rooms? Do they have every day 2/5 games? Do they have 5/10? How does the spread limit betting structure work at 2/5 and 5/10?

Thanks

Been playing the $2-$100 spread at Lone Butte recently. If someone opens in this game and no one calls, the opener gets $1 from the $3 blinds. House takes $2. Is there any other casino in the country that takes 67% with no flop? Should all hands be limped if you’re first in?
