It doesn't have to catch on, it's glued on now.

if you look at the webpage

http://www.talkingstickresort.com/gaming/poker.aspx

They still have the CAZ logo at the top left, and the first sentence on the page says "Casino Arizona offers a variety of poker games to satisfy your appetite..."

But other than that, the wording used is "The ARENA Poker Room at Talking Stick Resort" and there's barely any mention of "Casino Arizona" on the Talking Stick homepage.

It's just awfully confusing to tourists IMO, and it was a bad idea. But what do I know about anything, I'm just a local donkfish.

Once you see the new "scoreboard" hanging over the center of the huge room, you'll understand how "The Arena" does fit.

Here's a tidbit: I was told that the idea for 'The Arena' was imposed by the marketing department, not initiated by the poker room management. IDK if they did market research or not.

Close call myself in the super bounty last weekend...Got down to the final 2 tables and picked up 77 and got in in vs 99 and couldn't get home after the 346 flop even... GG... I know tl;dr... but been a while since I did ANYTHING good at a decent CAZ tourney...

I got it in, in desperation mode, with A7o versus QQ, TT and some random hand (he had 75 chips left lol).

No ace anywhere to be found. I still felt good about it given my stack, having that live overcard.

Q river and the mega-stacked dude let out a huge YEAH! as I scurried to the exit. Three-bounty score for him, lucky bastage. LOL

As close as you'll get to PLO is some 8/16 LO8.
The "PL" O-8 games in Tucson still have a $500 cap on any single bet, but it's played pot limit until you hit the cap. Has not been running that much lately from what I hear.

I've never played O8 live but prob gonna give the tourney a shot this weekend... lol donkfishaments

In the Omaha tourney a few weeks ago they couldn't even figure out how to do pot limit. If it wasn't so aggravating it would've been rather hilarious. They were counting the SB as completing their bet to compute "pot" even tho it hadn't even gotten around to the blinds yet. Wonder if they figured it out by now. sigh

That's how you play pot limit.

No it isn't. How can you count the SB as a full bet when the player hasn't even put the other half in the pot yet? Prove it and I'll admit I'm wrong.

I'm wrong quite often, but not in that one. I was wrong, the O8 tourney is a limit tourney, not pot limit. So we won't have the confusion about pot bets thankfully.

Is it? It's easier just to ignore the sb.

Okay, I now see where the confusion over this came from:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betting_in_poker#Pot_limit

"There may be some variance between cash and tournament play in pot limit betting structures, which should be noted:

Tournaments use a "True Pot" method of calculations, where the first round maximum raise to the first acting player is seven times the small blind. The blinds in a cash game, however, may not be a half and full bet (e.g. $2/$5) making the calculations run awry. In these cases a modification known as "Assumed Call" is used. Using an assumed call, the maximum raise to the first acting player in the first round is four times the big blind. Simply enough, the pot is treated as if the small blind had called, even if that player folded, to keep the pot's math more manageable."

So the TD was using the cash game method when he should have been using the accepted tournament method instead.

yeah they had no idea how to count the pot. I kept telling them - "it's simple, if a player wants to raise, put in their call first, now count what is in the pot, then that is their max raise." Had to tell them that 10-15 times no exaggeration and they still kept getting confused and counting wrong, doing weird math, etc. Pretty easy calculation I would expect people handling money all day to understand.

I think our table played about 10 hands/hr, not sure if the tourney was worth the time and juice.

I guess you were never at my table, because I kept getting into "arguments" (not angry but disagreeable) over the issue and nobody ever agreed with me on it, including the TD who I saw consulted at least three times over the issue, called over to the table to clear up the confusion. Unfortunately he was the source of it.

In the end, the plea was simply to ensure all tables were consistent with whatever rule we were playing under to compute "pot".

I ended up busting in 12th (9 paid) with AAxx to some random junk hand (standard), can't wait for the next one in May!

I turn 21 on Friday! Woooo

Anyways, I plan on playing in the super-turbo (and it's not even a super turbo... 15 min levels and you have more than 10BB for over an hour and a half...)

Just wondering, how many players can I expect? General skill level? Kind of looking forward to it being like California where I'm berated for 3 straight hours about my light pushes and still never getting called without TT+,AQ+ even with 8BB... but I've been told the play is better out here.

I plan on being obnoxious and showing up in my supernova pokerstars gear... good plan yes/no?

Also do they spread 5/10 during the day typically? Or only 2/5? Skill level there?

Elite? Did you get it in three months like Jorj95 did way back when? I never saw him wearing any gear at the casino... but like most good SNE's he's left America now for lands abroad that still actually allow their citizens the freedom to play poker. sigh grumble

See ya Saturday kiddo. Don't push too light on me.

Nah just the standard 5 stars, and the standard black dress shirt. I didn't even want my name engraved because when they finally offered it to me I was embarrassed by my -$22,000 sharkscope from the last month and didn't want people looking me up on OPR, lol. Then I lost supernova as I was broke as the new year started, and remained broke as I kept on losing... Was a glorious 40~ days of feeling baller, followed by being a broke college student for 6 months haha.

I've never even worn it and been looking for a chance... figured this was as good as any.

EDIT: Also jorj95 has at least $2k of that money from when I decided to play $400 super-turbos like a monkey.

If you wear Stars gear and a hoodie and sunglasses, people respect your raises.
