you might be able to find someone at the casino. Last time I remember them making an announcement before the tourney started about some players needing partners. GL

Playing the Jack & Jill tournament today ....

164 players ... 20 paid

11th- 20th payout is currently set at $77.

Tournament cost with add-on is $75

I protested to the TD and she claims there is nothing she can do because the tournament payout sheet says 20 places paid (based on 200 entries ).

When I pointed out that 164 is not 200 she said... "yeah but... its 164..."

Wtf?

Edit ... evidently it's the boss of the TD that won't let her modify # of payouts.

Lol donkaments

I'm guessing the rules say something like "20 places will be paid. The following is the payout for the 20 places based on 200 entries."

I mean if you are playing a tourney at casino az, why bother? No chance anyone in that room a real "winner" at mtts. Why do people even play live mtts? Chasing that monster 10k score or something?

Oh and if the guy who tried to "settle this outside" after I check jammed and hit my flush, you really need to work on your mental toughness.

My girlfriend and I play them for fun. She considers it a good couples activity. People play recreationally, this isn't a new concept.

We've played 4 of them so far and finished very well twice now for a hefty profit. Today we chopped it when down to 5 players.

Your post seems really condescending for no reason.

Yeah, its condescending because live mtts suck and I am bitter I have to play at a casino with a bunch of geriatrics who all smell terrible.

And because as you mentioned, the CAZ floor team are completely incompetent and arbitrary.

Obv too lazy to read this thread. Is this the casino in Phoenix? Online it seems like there are 2 locations. Is there a hotel at this casino? Is it Talking Stick? Is there a poker rate? Is this the place to stay when playing at CAZ?

Visiting family nearby and then plan on being there May 1-5 to spew it off in whatever the biggest nl game is. Any insights/info would be much appreciated.

Desert Cat- I occasionally lurk the mslh lc thread to see what my friend howmany is up to, and I've become a fan of your work. Respect...

there are two locations, but only talking stick has a poker room. Its in scottsdale, a suburb of phoenix.

It does indeed have a resort/hotel attached to it (a really nice one at that). http://www.talkingstickresort.com/accommodations.aspx

I don't know for a fact if there is a poker rate, but i would be very surprised if there was.

note that its not really NL... its SL because of arizona law. I think the biggest they run there is 5/10 blinds 10-500 spread.

i dont know for sure, but ive heard its pretty variable when it gets steam rolling...

back when they had a twice a week $200 mtt, i saw a couple brracelet winners who jumped in it occassionally. Im pretty sure they count as successful. (and first was only like a 6k score)

nothing wrong with donking around and blowing off some steam.

I heard there is a poker rate, I think I overheard it was $129 a night, used to be $99 a night. Call the casino and ask for a poker floor.

Thats pretty close i believe, i know that you have to have the room booked already at the normal rate, then you go to the shift manager in the poker room and ask them about the rate then they can get it changed.

They were probably mixed game bracelets. I'm gonna be playing a lot of CAZ mtts too, it just really pisses me off because like I said I doubt anyone is a big winner after paying what 20-25% rake and only seeing 20-25 hands an hour.

First ever session at CAZ tonight and my table hit a $12500 jackpot, anyone know what the biggest jackpot has been?

Nice hand, you run good.

As for the biggest, it was probably during a double jp or money added promo.

I never won anything at live poker before last year... so when I did my taxes the other day, I learned a valuable lesson.

(note, i play tourneys only, i never play cash/ring)

The lesson is... after dealer tokes, tip and taxes, you need about a 140% ROI just to break even. That was my ROI, I won 10K on 7K in entry fees... paid another 1K in dealer tokes and tips after making final tables (not deductible)... so 2000 in profit for the year... and the federal tax on that 10K extra income turned out to be around 1500 after itemizing my 7K in gambling losses.

So a 140% ROI for 50 tourneys at average buy-in of 140 left me with 500 profit.

That is just ridiculous and so not worth the time and effort. The lesson is... I am done with poker. Good luck all, it was definitely fun but there's no money in poker, the casinos and government are solid. And I ain't gonna be their huckleberry.

I told you! Sorry to hear that, it is brutally depressing, but thank you for proving my point that even a very competent live mtt player is absolutely wasting their time. Only talking CAZ tourneys here. Why is that considered 10k income when its only 3k in profit?
