First Tues nite tourney with the lowered rake (115+15+10 for extra 50% starting stack) got 132 entries last nite. Tues/Wed had been averaging right around 100 entries in the recent past. 30% increase is awesome, hope it sticks. First place paid over 4K and spots 11-15 got like 360. Payouts are odd IMO, don't usually see the min cash being almost three times the buyin and winner was getting 25% of prize pool... guess that means spots 2-9 are getting screwed a little bit... but nothing a save or a chop can't fix (ugh, hate that crap arguing with regs over silly deals).

CA has been really good 3/5 during the day the last couple weeks... the new min/max buy in I believe has really helped the game...

The 2/3 is also a big improvement over the 1/2 IMO.

Spotted Donkey just opened at Hayden/Via De Ventura, I thought it was pretty good though a little fancy. About 5 minute drive.

I really like Blanco Tacos & Tequila, the cheese enchiladas were awesome last time I went. It's on Scottsdale Road just north of McDonald. About a 10 minute drive.

Since I posted it in another forum, might as well post it here:

For time paid games, since they moved to the new casino, supposedly any ole floorman can't authorize the dealer to drop anymore.

So now the drop sometime sits there for 3 dealer downs. That means there is 3-9 stacks of almost $200 sitting there waiting to be dropped.

Any better way of saying "**** you, we own you" to your players?

And that is only because I have started to yell at the floor to drop it already. I wonder how long and how high it piles up when I am not in the game.

It's pretty common in the 5/10 game for us to joke about that at the table. It's rare that a night goes by that 3 rounds aren't stacked up at some point. Every casino gets that money down the shoot as fast as possible so you don't realize how much they're taking from you. At CAZ, meh.

Is there a poker room rate available if you stay at Casino AZ?

Thanks;

We should implement a rule that if it is still sitting there at the start of the next down, the next down is free. I am sure that would light a fire under their lazy asses.

Before they used to have upwards of 6-8 high limit games going at a time. Now they have 3-4 to worry about, and they can't even handle that?

I know you only asked about staying at CAZ, but i have another option for you that i use every time i take a poker trip up there.

If are able to and don't mind having to drive (never more than 10-15 minutes) to the casino, try this:
Head to Priceline.com and click the "Name Your Own Price" link. Enter in "scottsdale" and your dates. Then select number 15 from the list of 19. Select 4 stars, and only 4 stars. Bid $45 and it should accept it and you'll be ready to go. If it doesn't accept $45, start over at the homepage of the site again, select #1 Apache Junction, along with Scottsdale and ONLY 4 stars, then bid $50. If $50 doesn't work, try $55 and the same process with Scottsdale, 4 stars, and #19 West mesa. $50 is the most i've ever had to pay for a 4 star in that area and staying just a few minutes away has cut my trip costs considerably. Also, i find it refreshing to be able to drive away after a rough session and to get out of the casino environment when not on the grind. Let me know if you try it out and how it went.

Yeah I play at CAZ once or twice a week. I'm a semi reg in the 5/10spread game. There are a couple of us UofA guys that play and we're happy to beat up on the ASU folks

Say hello if you're around. I'm the gayer looking of the 3 Marks who regularly play Go Cats!

Mark

don't know about that, in my opinion you three are just one Mark short of a barbershop quartet.

Drove up from Tucson on Saturday looking to donate in the 5-10 SL game but it never got off the ground (was there between 3pm and 11:30). They called our names a couple of times but no more than two folks apparently responded.

I did play at a couple of different 3-5 blind games that were pretty good action, and which included a couple of players I've seen before at 5-10.

So are the 3-5 games killing 5-10 or was this just an anomaly?

It doesn't go a lot of times on weekends because lots of the regs aren't around. But it runs every weekday, and half the time on the weekend.
