So just a dumb question I moved here after they already had the big room here at the stick post tent…how is it playing in the tent? Does it get sketchy with the monsoons/storms in the summer lol

Way less comfy or is it bearable?

My thought when playing in the tent was, I didn't notice I was in a tent. I've been in a lot worse "rooms". Worse part was the cigarette smoke from the casino side. Hopefully the whole new tent will be non-smoking.

The tvs were easier to see. The AC was just as strong. Bathrooms might have been a little smaller. Menu was fine.

"Tents" is not really a technical term. More like a fairgrounds.

The state championship has a cap of 400 entrants per day for a total cap of 1200 players. I imagine it selling out quickly given that even the $345 at beginning of the month fills up within the first 2 blind levels.
Tent? Are they moving the poker room just for the tournament?

Cap it at 400 entrants a day? WTF. This room is criminally incompetent at running tournaments. How they only run 1 $500+ tournament a year is completely beyond me. Total muppets.

probably a combination regarding availability of dealers, staff and bad management. Plus they don't make that much profit from tournaments so the incentive is low.

The previous tent was tent in name, pretty much a solid standing room where I never once noticed wind or even the sound of rain. Pretty sure I’ve still logged more career hours at the tent than the resort. Should be able to prove that with records if I cared.

Moving the poker room back to the tents AFTER the tournament. The current room is to become a dual sportsbook + roulette/craps/etc. room. The tents are how it used to be, but I turned 21 just after the arena opened so I never played in them.

The dealers dislike tournaments since poker + degen game dealers keep 100% of personal tips and tournament players don't tip as much and it's divided evenly with staff. $1-2 a hand is close to $40 or $50 an hour, and some tables even more -- it's not uncommon to see $25 tips for larger pots at 3/5. For a $345 tourney with 300 entrants, that's a $90,000 prizepool. If everyone tipped 3%, that's $2700. Assuming an average of 15 dealers over the course of 8 hours, that's only $22.50 per hour per dealer.

Likewise, the floor dislikes tournaments since the rules are more strict, gotta keep watch with hand for hand stuff, coloring up chips -- all for less money. For the same $345 tourney, it's $45*300=$13,500 revenue. Compare that to the ~$5/hand at 30 hands an hour you're getting from regular tables, assuming the same 15 dealers from earlier is $18,000.

So both dealers AND management earn less from the tournaments. They only exist to draw players in, keep room alive, advertisement, etc. -- they love to run tournaments that start at 11am when cash game players are sleeping and end by 7pm once the after-dinner cash players are ready to go -- no sense in running two-day, slow structure, big-buy in events even if they could get the crowds.

Still think it will easily sell out with it falling in the middle of the Main and in the middle of the $1,111 Little One for One Drop in Vegas? That many AZ grinders? I love Scottsdale and TS so thinking I will come out from Louisiana to fire at this one. I guess its just a 1 tourney event and no series around it right?

When I first played there, apparently it was in a tent. I didn't even realize it because I had only gone there at night, and couldn't tell tents were involved at all.

I would guess yes. It sells out early every year.

Anyone have pics of what the room looked like in the tent? Was there a casino portion to it as well, and will the new tent be a poker-only “room”?

Here is a picture of the inside. There was an old forum that had pictures but it is long gone and I can't find a link to it to try the wayback machine.

Yes there was a casino part to it, along with a few bars and a few restaurants. The bad things were that while the poker room was non-smoking, since it shared the same space as the rest of the casino, it was a bit smoky. Also, there was only one set of bathrooms that were in the center part where the two tents met, so it was a decent walk from the poker room.

Apart from the occasional cigarette smoke, I preferred the tent room to the room in the new building. Unless it's changed in the last few years, the bathrooms are annoyingly far away from the poker room in the new building as well.

How? They have the small bathrooms near the high limit floor station and the other bathrooms right outside the dealer entrance to the room.

You couldn't have them closer to tables without having them in the middle of the room under the 'jumbotron'.

Huh, I didn't know/remember they had any near the high limit floor. Either they weren't there when I was playing or I forgot about them. Maybe they were there and I never knew? I just remember the main bathrooms being far away from the high limit tables.

Haha they are literally 15 steps away from the 20-40 main game table. No idea if it used to be different, but they’ve been there as long as I’ve been visiting.

And the ones just outside the poker room have been there just as long.

I am not exactly looking forward to seeing the room in a tent, but as you guys have said, it looks like it was a really nice tent.

Back when I stupidly played 40 mix, I could fold a hand in badeucy and easily go to the bathroom and make it back before the third draw.

How is the limit action these days? Particularly mix and holdem?

Yeah, the lighting was hit or miss for sure. Some tables were dark and others that had a light directly over it felt like you were sitting under a spotlight.
