Crazy stuff. I went to get there early today at 6am and was turned away, waited till 7am when it became apparent they were shut down. Curious how this will work with a day 2 restart on Wednesday. Also, was under the impression there was a guarantee on this tourney, don't think there's any chance they get there with only 2 day ones, with the second occurring on a Wednesday.

Me that played way different end of day 1 than I would have if I could have not come back

There was never a guarantee. Only an estimated prize pool. They have said stuff in the past like $1.1M guarentee with 1000 entrants (adding $100k to the prizepool from the jackpot fund).

Does the name on the receipt have to match your ID to get paid out? Or is someone like RR going to have screwed over a handful of people out of $200-$300 by being scummy?

They don't need to cancel those days. As mentioned above if they just do them next Saturday and Sunday a lot of people will be able to work that out.

Fun to see everyone jumping on top point fingers from up high on how things SHOULD be handled in THIS situation...

A situation that was an "act of God"

and of all people I'd expect The Pope to be a bit more understanding than this..

This situation could never have been PLANNED FOR, by anyone.

But rules and protocols have to be in place for a facility to obtain a gaming license and maintain it, @talking stick has done this.

@talkingstick is the best operated/updated license holder in the "valley".
I prefer not to play anywhere else but there in Phoenix area tbh.

So, IF YOU think it's a "poopshow" and dont like scat, DONT GO
we won't notice you aren't there...
and from the sounds of it you'll be a much happier person...

Now, on to the notion, or idea that all of you complainers/trolls aka losing players that want there money back after busting day1a.
You know who you are..
(Umm wasn't me..)

So, the bagged stacks, of which, there were probably like 80 total bagged stacks that would get refunded from day1a ?
Umm sure ok...
ITS GAMBLING
Not Guaranteeing...

The players that busted should not be refunded.
THEY GAMBLED... THEY LOST
harsh reality, sorry not sorry?
No Refunds and No Whining

That remaining prizepool after the bagged stack refunds, aka FREEROLL, should go into the prizepool for the championship and effectively make day1a become day1X

with the rescheduled day1b day1c day1d at the next Friday/Saturday/Sunday after the casino reopens. Possibly rescheduled for this weekend....
who knows, it's raining where I am in the north valley and has been for the last hour atm...

If you're a real gambler, like you keep trying to tell yourself, then you should already understand that this is the best and only way to proceed.
Because you would see that it will increase the prize pool, have more overall entries, and be a better GAMBLE, GAMBLERS....

So, watching this poopshow here from my hospital bed thinking I was gonna miss the state championship with surgeries 2 years in a row was fun and all...

But nope, not now.
Because of this act of God,

I GET to GAMBLE

See you real poker players at the rescheduled event...

I do think just cancelling the tourney and ICMing the Day1a prizepool is likely the best result.

I never play tourneys there, for a few reasons, only cash.

The frustration with CAZ tourneys is a few. The high rake (which is fairly normal at this level), forcing you to play Keno, the previous tourney director and poker room manager, using cash game jackpot money to fund tournament prizepools in the past, and of course their advertising of the State Championship with 'an estimated prizepool' tricking even experienced tourney grinders into believing there is a guarantee on the tournament.

Also, I didn't read up on the storms Friday night. I live about 8 miles south of CAZ, Wednedsay night our power was out for 8 hours, Thurs night had some very heavy rain, Fri night had less wind and less rain than Wed and Thurs. Obviously small pockets can get extreme weather with these storms, but does seem like poor design led to this, although it is the first I recall this happening.

Yeah, this building was built less than five years ago, right? They should have designed it to handle monsoon rains, which are not exactly new to Arizona. Now if the city drainage got overloaded there might not have been anything anyone could do about it. Even so, housing backup generators underground seems dumb.

I have seen dumber though. Pantano wash in Tucson now has a housing development right in the middle of it. I've seen it with 30 or 40 feet of water flowing through it like the friggin' Mississippi.

You seem to be some sort of wizard so answer me this: if your high variance day one strategy had worked out and you bagged the chip lead how would the equity of your stack be affected by this decision? This is why I’m saying you are being results oriented.

I'm curious about how they will do an ICM chop. I haven't seen an ICM calculator that was designed for that many players.

Btw I busted day one but I’m not so results oriented that I think I deserve something back.
I get where he’s coming from, but certainly don’t think you should get a refund if you bust. For example if you have 50-100k stack and have a chance to stick it in at a 60-40 dog at the end of the day you would snap do it since you can come back for next day in an insanely EV tourney.

So there wrI spots where you end up taking the worst of it because you think it’s a + ev spot (it is) and now it turns out all you did was take the worst of it.

Take for example the hand you busted on. The EV Of your shove is considerably less not being able to play day 2.

That being said, certainly no refund. Maybee it would be cool to try and do a 1k tourney down the road in month or two and make it rake free or add some money to prize pool or something.

I just got off the phone w/ them and the operator says they don't know when they're going to re-open. That might mean a trip to Gila River tomorrow for me, darn it.

Updated statement in relation to the impacts from the Aug. 11 storm:

Talking Stick Resort continues to mitigate the impacts from the storm of Aug. 11. Hundreds of people from multiple agencies have been working around-the-clock since the incident. The Salt River Gaming Board and management appreciates the collective work that successfully evacuated more than 600 of our hotel guests. Equally important was the quick action by emergency services and our gaming floor staff to safely guide the exit of all of our gaming guests without incident.

The last 24-hours has revealed new information to management who have determined that at this time the property will remain closed with a target re-opening date of Sunday, Aug. 19. Entertainment and gaming activities scheduled to occur this week are either cancelled or will be rescheduled. Ticket holders should contact the Box Office at 480-850-7734 for further information.

Evaluation since yesterday resulted in a clearer understanding of the reason for the generator malfunctions which caused the power outage and forced the temporary closure. Specifically, the multiple storms leading up to Aug. 11 contributed to the incident. The water from the fourth storm flowed into the area where the main and back-up generators are located, causing serious water damage. Teams have been working on clean up non-stop while the operations team is assessing options for access to power and a phased re-opening plan.

We are continuing to communicate directly with our impacted hotel guests. Reservations have been halted and all property events have been cancelled until further notice. Guests should contact the property at 866-877-9897 to receive further information regarding their existing reservation.

Guests who were on the gaming floor at time of the evacuation and that exited the property with gaming chips can exchange their chips for cash starting today at Casino Arizona, 524 N. 92nd St., Scottsdale, Ariz. Slot machine players who had slot tickets in hand but were unable to redeem them due to the incident can go to Casino Arizona to redeem their winnings. Impacted players with questions regarding their slot play can call 480-850-7708.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to resume operations at Talking Stick Resort to the level of excellence that our guests have come to expect. Our website, www.talkingstickresort.com, will provide updates as they are available.
