PROPOSED STICKY

Wait I heard there is no no-limit poker in Arizona

Technically you heard correctly, we play 'spread limit hold'em'

$300 max with 1/3 blinds (buy in $100-$300)
$500 max with 3/5 blinds (buy in $300-$1,000)

in fact $500 is the maximum bet in any legal state casino.

So what can I bet? Does the betting stop at $300??

You can bet up to the max bet. So if someone bets $12, you may raise to $312, and he may reraise to $612 etc. {or $15, $515, $1015 in 3/5}

So it's not that hard to get all in.

We guess you'll see someone estopped from getting all in @once every 40 hours of live play, and most of those situation arise because people bet very little on earlier streets.

Should I know about anything that happens fairly often

Yes. Because we're technically playing limit poker, the betting is capped at one bet and 3 raises. The big blind counts as the bet before the flop [a live straddle does NOT count]. So if utg raises to $12, utg+1 reraises to $21, the next player who raises will have made the 3rd and final preflop raise, after which everyone else may only call or fold.

This is not real poker; you can't bluff

You cannot value bet either, because everyone know you can't bluff

Probably need a line in there that mentions the 4 raises max per street rule. Generally it's a preflop dilemma only, but it can happen when raises/3bets are on the small side and a random 4b happens, everyone is now subjected to only calling or folding. Mostly annoying to the OR or the 3bettor since they can no longer jam over that action.

It is mentioned. Where it comes into play most often is when someone straddles. It's then followed by 3 min-raises. The table is saying they don't like straddles.

Haha nvm, I see it now... straddles don't count as one of the raises maybe as the only last bit of clarification I suppose. I'll see myself out now

Thanks for the info guys! I just found out I'll be going to AZ on business twice in 2 months.

I'll be in Phoenix in April and Chandler in May. Judging by this map it looks like Chandler isn't too far from Phoenix and Scottsdale. Is there a closer casino to Chandler for my May trip or am I better off just sticking with Talking Stick?

Wild Horse Pass (Gila River Casino) might be closer. They have a 25ish table room, but they have a 1/2 game as their main quasi NL game w/ a 100 max bet.

Thanks. I just went to add it to the FAQ, and realized....you don't yet have a FAQ. I could have sworn there was one, but I guess not.

Anyone here want to take a crack at creating an initial full one? Here's the one I inherited/maintain for Parx, if you want to crib the sections or formatting: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/19.../#post15412545

You can either post it here or send it to me or one of the other mods by PM.

I'm from London but live in NYC now, usually play at Sugarhouse, Parx, Borgata, sometimes Harrah's or Bally's AC.

Just multi quote Pope from day 1 and weed out the unrelated posts, and there is your FAQ page

It's not the closest to me in terms of time - I can't drive so sort of rules Sands out for the most part. I'm sure it's fun, particularly around big college weekends (graduation etc).

They do, but it's way less convenient than going to Philly on the Amtrak or even the bus to AC, far fewer options.

I don't think anyone really has a sample size for that to say yes or no. If anything, might be slower since spring training is over.

Vegas is busy. Ballys had 6 NL games last night, and even a 3/6 game.

BTW Howard, I rented a Hyundai Accent, and even that turd didn't get slowed under 70 even on the steepest hills.
