Just to confirm:

I should tell the cab driver "talking stick" and they do have a bag check at the hotel for casino/poker players, true?

A friend just showed me a pretty awesome new thing you can do in the poker room. I haven't done it from my phone yet but I saw it on his.

Download the app "Audio Everywhere" then connect to the new second wireless connection in the poker room. (PokerAudio I think, but it's the new one, not "guest". Password is TalkingStick.)

You are now connected to the network of TVs and should be able to connect to the TV of your choice for full audio!! I will try it today and post results.

Just in time for football season!!

Using the wi if now for the TV audio! Works awesome and very simple.

Network name is indeed PokerAudio.

Password is talkingstick (one word all lowercase).

Once the "audio everywhere" app is open, it will automatically show an available list of channels that the TVs are tuned into.

That's sick

Does the poker room have regular wifi for non guests? Just for players without a room? Or is that only for the audio stuff?

Ya they have a regular wi if network anyone can use... The password changes all the time but any floor person or board person can give it to you. You don't have to be staying there, and it's free to connect. I'm not sure where it reaches to as far as casino/hotel areas outside of the poker room, but it for sure works within the poker room itself.

Hi. Just wondering what your guys' thoughts are on the 3/5 game at Talking Stick as compared to a typical 2/5 game in Vegas. Have heard good things about the action there and am considering taking a trip out for about a week of poker. Thanks.

3-5 can be great. Plays as 3-5-500 spread which I guess you know. 300/1000 min/max buy-in. Does play pretty much like NL unless a couple stacks get really deep, but it's not too tough to justify all in bets on the turn in many cases. Typical PFR is 25-30, sometimes going a little lower or higher.

There are usually 2 games going, 3-4 on weekends. Some pretty good players and some pretty weak. There are a few guys who can show up and create amazing games though, with table change lists getting 5-7 deep.

Cool. So basically you expect a couple decent regs per 3/5 table but pretty good action overall?

You'll usually have 3-5 regs but action is usually good, yes. Some of the regs are action players. During the week, there's usually one table you definitely want to get on. Big stacks, big pots, other good players trying to table change to it. During weekends there will be 2-3 of those tables.

Any thoughts on brm for the 2-3 and 3-5 games? I like to buy in for 300 at 2-3 and 4-500 at 3-5.

The 3/5 isnt as soft as your average 2/5 in vegas imo. It's not that the regs are better, its not there are more of them in the games and many play nitty, especially weekdays. As the other poster said, there usually will be one table that you will want to get on. The difference between 2/3 and 3/5 is noticeable here so expect much bigger swings.

Not sure if you're asking me or those more familiar with these particular games, but it would mostly depend on whether you play full time or have other income.

If you play full time, I'd want somewhere around $10k-$12k to sit at 3/5, but really you should be taking shots at it as soon as you feel comfortable losing a couple buyins and the game looks soft. You should be trying to get out of 2/3 as quickly as possible due to rake concerns and how difficult it is to make a living playing 2/3.

If you have a job and don't play full time, you don't need bankroll management.

That surprises me. I think the games in vegas are the toughest in the country, mainly because there are so many full time players in vegas and the locals who don't play full time don't give much away. That isn't to say there aren't lots of spots to be found in 2/5 games in vegas, but you can easily find yourself at a nitty/solid/tough table if you don't actively game select.

I disagree about not needing a bankroll because you have another source of income. This is only true if you have enough left over after your expenses to regularly buy into the game you want to play. Someone with no outside income needs more of a bankroll than someone with some ability to replenish but this doesn't mean the semi pro needs no bankroll at all.

Another important consideration is how good you are. If you have a bigger win rate, you need less of a bankroll. If you are not a winning player then a bankroll is pointless.

Ultimately there are a ton of different considerations so the answer will depend on your individual situation.

Of course. I'm not saying, if you make $60k a year at your job, screw brm and just play 100/200NL whenever you feel like it. Was just assuming that 1) he's a winning player and 2) he's not going to dust off his net worth playing 3/5. When you have a job your risk of ruin is 0 assuming you're not gambling with the mortgage payments.

Thanks. Yeah I have a full time job so it's not too bad losing a buy in here and there. I certainly don't play with the mortgage money. I'd like to have a self-sustaining bankroll though. I'm a marginally winning player, though I'd have a better win rate if I fix a couple leaks.

Just found out one of the 20 OE regs, an affable and very nice gent, got married last week to a woman who also plays at CAZ. I want to offer a very sincere congratulations to both of them. If a regular player in your game gets married it's not unusal for the other regs to get together to get them some sort of gift, or take them out. But what some OE regs did for this couple is so unusual and special that it deserves a public acknowledgement,

They asked the poker room manager to ban the bride and groom from ever playing in same game again. And the manager actually did it.

And that should tell you all you need to know about the typical CAZ OE game, it's regs, and how "pleasant" they are to play with. Someday I hope they will see the bigger picture beyond their daily quest to nit up two games they can't actually play well.

An fyi: CAZ's latest BJ cards have a defect such that at many tables the reader isn't able to tell the dealer if they have a BJ when there's an Ace or a face up. Consequently they have to play it as 21 if they have it. IDK how long that's going to last.
