Not sure if everyone saw this but Matt Affleck was at TSR for Az State & wrote up a trip report for Card Player... Nice hearing an outsiders view of the casino as well as the action..

Pretty cool article, Thanks for the kind write up for TSR Matt!! This is just what we need to see bigger, and more tournament series find their way into our room!! Spot on about the AZ ST CHAMP being the best valued $1K of the year outside of the WSOP based on how soft this field is year in and year out.

@ Howard Beale. Today, one of the shift supervisors was going "above and beyond" by going vent to vent in the poker room and adjusting and cleaning them. The AC, as you well know, has been horrible now for over 29 months. We were discussing what he was doing when one of the facilities mgrs came over and out of nowhere offered the comment " you wanna fix, the AC in this room, ask any of the poker players what to do". Hey bud, why the hate? It's YOU who have done the horrible job!!

WTF.

At least somebody was trying something. I wish I'd been there to speak to the facilities manager.

Maybe we will get the new lightbulbs and it will help.

How about the card parties start washing the stains off of the backs of the cards?

I was at the 2/3 table 8 when that guy said that... Funny part was that I heard from the other guy later that someone was in the room testing the heat coming off the lights...

So back to those lights.... you would think it was still the tents with this AC/lights problems..

The saddest part of the entire AC saga is that this is Phoenix we are talking about and the Yellow Pages must be chock full of AC consulting engineers or w/e the specialty is called. ONE phone call for crying out loud, but NOOooooOOO! They apparently must do it in-house or consult the players.

This player once doused himself w/ a bottle of water at the table. Keep hearing about it from some ppl.

I don't think it is that big of a deal. Lots of athletes play at TSR; I remember Jarron Collins from the Suns in there a lot about a year and a half ago when he was with out in AZ....Pretty good player BTW.

I used to play $20-$40 and $5-$150 with Jeremy Roenick in the tent days quite a few times. That's one of the great things about living in AZ, we get our share of athletes and Sports stars that want to play.

Connie Hawkins (Suns legend) used to be a huge regular in the 3/6 Omaha 8/b game.

Shawn Marion was an infrequent regular at 20/40. I saw him waiting a handful of times, but never got to play with him.

There are others who I see regularly that I don't want to out.

I've played with Shawn Marion and Grant Hill in the 2-3 or 3-5, cant remember. Not sure about Hill but Marion's obv not around anymore.

I give mad props to Marion. He should make a video on how big name pro athletes should act in public. I played w/ him 3 times. MANY ppl would pass by just to say hello and they always got a smile and return greeting.

He's also not stupid. He once commented along the lines of: 'I know I'm probably going to lose but I know enough not to play in the big game. I'd rather save the money and put it to buying a piece of property.'

There's some sample bias there. If dude goes to a public poker room, obviously he expects to be seen and interact with the public.

Most pro athletes do their best to live a private life and when they get stuck in public w/paparazzi or people pestering them I cant blame them for being less than cordial.

I guess he must love poker though. 3-5 for him would be like us sitting at .05/.10. Not sure I would enjoy it or play A game.

I suppose but I remember thinking to myself that at some point I might not be able to handle it, that's how many ppl came by the table. There was even one guy who sat down w/ $300. When Marion took a walk he told us that he was a 3-6 player who'd borrowed from everybody he knew just so that he could sit next to him.

Connie can be found playing the mix game at Ak Chin now most nights.

Outside of some friendly slow-rolling, he's one of the nicest people in this city to play a game of poker with.

If that's recent news, that's possible. I know he's been in and out. He is 70. I probably played with him last (in the aforementioned mix game) about two months ago.

No, nothing recent. When he stopped playing at CAZ (over a year ago) I had heard some stuff about health issues, so I figured that was why I never saw him anymore. Even when not playing in the same game ever, he is hard to miss.

Omaha bad beat is losing with quad 5s or better. the other bad beat is that people will find out that you play omaha.
