not too many pots where you have a leg up should be played. especially in games where the kill is higher than the rake.

If (when?) you visit Talking Stick PLEASE don't tell this to the 8-16 players. They actually will make calls while saying 'I'm trying to make a kill pot', smh.

I can’t find it anywhere, is there a call in #; do they allow call aheads?

No they don't allow call-ins. You can call to see what games are running (which I used to do), but haven't had to since they've been on bravo for the last few years.

As I’ve previously posted , I’ll be in town this weekend and I plan to play Thursday and/or Friday night. What do I need to know about the atmosphere at the arena poker room. Players, drinks , food, specific things about the room. I have bravo, looking to play up to 8-16 Hold’em and o8.

I want to piggyback on this post.

My questions are:
(1) What's the typical player pool like at the smallest NLHE game?
(2) Is there any difference in the typical player pool at $3/6 FLHE versus $4/8? Weird that they have both. I usually like $4/8 more just for the larger SB.
(3) Can I actually get on the list via Bravo or do I have to be there in person?

Thanks to all.

1) This question is always asked and are never helpful. Just go and play. When you get 6-10 tables, are you really worried about the player pool? Just move tables if you are at a bad table.
2) Not going to be anything different, play the larger BB with slightly smaller rake as a % of pot.
3) Need to be in person (seriously, I just answered this two posts above, my god)

The atmosphere might be very cold especially late at night. They tend to run the AC floor vents very strongly.

Thank you for that info. Looks like I’ll be there for Monte Carlo Thursdays.

Also are there any games with kills or half kills?
The Arena Poker Room at Casino Arizona's Talking Stick Resort (Scottsdale, AZ) -- FAQ in OP Quote

Yes, all limit games have kills. Pretty sure all games under 20/40 are full kill and above that half kill.

Well, I didn't know there were typically 6-10 tables, because I've never been out there and haven't been tracking it over time via Bravo. I skimmed some of this thread but didn't read all 6000 posts. I don't get to play live anywhere really, so I don't know if player pools vary geographically, or what the current state of NLHE games is.

I actually did read that post, so I knew I couldn't call in. But I still didn't know if one could actually get on the list through Bravo, which is why I asked about that specifically. Again, I don't ever play live, so I never use the app, and I wasn't sure how it worked.

Seems like my questions irked you, but hopefully they seem slightly less ridiculous now. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

You'll almost certainly be in an action game at those times. If you're going to be there a while it's worth getting a player's card for the $1/hr, at least you get a few dollars to help pay for a meal. If you're planning on drinking a lot get ready for sticker shock. Full menu, good food, imo.

Saw something 'new' today: A chip runner selling chips from a cart. I exclaim 'It's about time they did this!' And the runner told me that they've been available for two years but that all of the rest of the chip runners won't use them bec there's too much 'exposure' I suppose is the right word. But it's got to be the case that this fellow is selling more chips/making more tips.

Remember the two younger guys back at the tents that carried like 8 racks around and quit once they couldn't carry unbought chips around?

They usually had 1 rack of red, 2 of blue, and 4-5 of white.

I remember one tall young guy but that's not why he quit. He quit when the new compact required all tips to be put into the pouch they wear (and dealers tips went into the box). He hustled so much money carrying around all of those racks, smart guy. Anyway, that's the story as I heard it.

It’s about time. Getting chips is definitely a pain point in this room, many times I just walk to the cage before I sit myself

Howdy,

Visiting AZ for the weekend and don't feel like sifting through all of the previous pages for the potential answer to my questions regarding the 8/16 O8 game that runs here. To clarify- Is this a round by round Omaha 8/Stud 8 game? If so, what is bring in for the Stud portion? Any other things to know about this game? How many racks do players normally buy in for?

Regarding the 10/500 Omaha Hi/HL game- again, I assume this is a round by round game? What are the blinds? And typical buy in?

Thanks all

The 10-500 SL omaha game is high only - the "HL" means it is managed in the High Limit section in the back of the room, where there is a separate "board",

Blinds are 5-10, max buy-in is nominally 2500 but in my limited experience with the game, enforcement of the buy-in cap seems inconsistent - purple chips sometimes seem to multiply in the absence of winning any big pots.

Why would you care how much people usually buy in for in a limit game?

It's a spread limit game with a large spread to simulate NL or Pot Limit so stack sizes will be relevant.
