High Limit: They have a dedicate floor for these for a few reasons. One because these games will frequently start short handed or even heads up, which trying to tell that to the board who is calling down 6 names for an open seat at 2/3 doesn't have time to organize and call a dealer. Also the games require a delicate touch of what you can open and what you can't. Just because you have 8 names on a 40/80 mix game, you can't start it because 6 of them are in the 75 mix game and will only go if the live one goes. It just takes more managing pretty much. I'm sure someone else can give a better articulated response.

As for the mixed games, I have seen them go at 20/40, but never below that. I think the floor has flat out said no at anything lower than that. Think they have gotten 15/30 or maybe even 8/16 down at Gila River.

As far as the high limit games, what is the reason they keep the list in the back of the room? I would have thought that they would get more traffic for those games if they were listed at the front of the room. They make less money from those games?
They probably make less, not sure if the ban on free rolls will change that. But if you want to play mid-high stakes, you will find the games (and low limit board will help you). It also adds a sense of exclusivity/higher service to those games.

They had two 100 mix games going when I left for dinner. The main 9 handed, the must move 5 handed.

1. Draw games take a long time to play
2. You get far less hands per hour
3. Therefore the casino has to charge time
Rather than rake.
4. If you are paying $14/hour you will
Not be able to beat an 8-16 game

you are already paying 14/hr in the 8-16 game without being charged time ;p

Completely disagree. 8/16 is a fast moving game. 35 hands an hour, lets say 25 get max rake of $6...there you go.

And you get like 30% of that back in theory.

lol @ theory. Admin fees, 3/6 gets a higher percentage, tourney added money, food comps and football pools for time paying games.

What would the time players do if the charge was increased to $8-9/down? They haven't raised the time charge (except for the big mix) since they've been open and I wonder why.

Anyone have an estimate on the turnout for the AZ State Championship warmup tourneys? I've only ever played the $60 dailies and I don't remember the turnout or know if the Tues/Weds tourneys get more runners. Also, are there no satties into the 1k? Don't see it listed on the site.

Thanks!

I thought it was quite nitty Friday night with 45 min of uncontested pots in between the big ones. In fact this month I've noticed a lot of games are better at 3:00pm than at 8:00.

yeah the last couple of times it's been a joke...people are reading books at the table, on ipads/iphones, listening to music, just folding everything and every once in a while there would be an AK vs JJ, AK vs AQ or AA vs KK hand lol....tightest I have ever seen it there

I'd guess 250 for the 120, 220, and 340. Maybe 100 for the 500? Pretty sure sattys will be running around the clock for the 1k.

What happens if the bbjp survives through Mon/Tues and is at 100k during the AZ State Championship? I don't think the gaming commission lets you set up 50 more tables in the ballroom without a bunch of slow paperwork. If I were the manager I'd suspend the jp and the +2 rake until the tourney thins out.

Ballroom doesn't have the necessary security cameras afaik and there'd be a riot.

In other news it was so hot Sat night that I called the manager on duty at Talking Stick, told him I'd complained a couple of times before and straight out asked him if they just didn't care. He told me that new light bulbs should be in w/i 6-8 weeks and that will lower the temp 10-15 degrees. I sure hope so.

Because October is the hottest month?

10-15 degrees? Sounds almost as if they don't care enough to make up a believable story.

Can we deputize someone to start a pool on when this actually happens?

I've talked to one of the managers about the new bulbs for a long time now. He talks about red tape and going through channels. Talking Stick isn't that big an outfit that they shouldn't be able to turn on a dime as I could when I had my business.

I really hope that the new bulbs work bec it's simply horrible when the room's full. GL to you if you're playing the State Championship. Bring an ice pack.

btw: 10-15 degrees could be right. Those bulbs throw off a lot of heat and there are a lot of them.
