The $2 on the button sounds nitty, as well as the $1 parking and $1 admission. Better run poker rooms, even in Florida, don't nickel and dime customers like this. Raking $2 from your $6 checked-down pot is not the way to attract customers. I agree with your assessment - totally absurd.

I was heading from Tampa to Hollywood to check out the games down there a year or so ago and stopped at PBKC to check it out. Got seating in a 1/2nl game and quickly saw the $2 button post and saw the $2 min. rake and I quickly exited and will not be back.
Luckily I took down a $50 profit in the 3 or 4 hands I was dealt. lol

I arrived at the Palm Beach Kennel Club at about 9:15PM and paid $1 for parking and $1 admission for the Dog Races. Happened to see a race too.

The Poker Room is not large in size but sure fits in lots of tables for the relative small size. There is a bar service and massage girls plus the Dog Racing Gambling option so there is plenty of activity. There was a waiting list for the 1/2 game but when I walked around found an empty seat and was invited to sit by the dealer. As you know the maximum buy in for any game is $100 so that was my starting stack. One difference with most games, here you also post a $2 blind on the button in addition to the standard SB and BB.

I could see the quality of play was generally passive weak. After a few minutes I was dealt AKo in fairly early position and raised to $15, One other guy called, but a third guy raised to $45. Since I only had about $85 left in front of me, I decided to go all in even though I was pretty sure I was slightly behind. Fortunes were with me and I spiked an Ace and King and doubled up.

After my double up, I did win a few modest hands after that with some premium hands, even flopping a set of kings once. But the rake is steep at $5 with another $1 for the bad beat. Also, I discovered how bad the rake is in one hand where only the three blinds including me were in the hand. It was checked down the entire way. I should have been given $6 but they raked $2 from the pot which is absurd.

Overall it was a nice visit and I would return again but only because the state has approved an uncapped game rule (clubs will probably set higher standard caps) effective July 1. Even though the rake is high, I expect there will be a learning curve for the deeper stack games.

The part I highlighted is the main thing that tilts me off when waiting to play poker..
Very d-bag move...you knew there was a waiting list..but decided you were ok because a dealer invited you to take a seat...
Great, so I showed up realized there was a waiting list..added my name to the list...picked up a current copy of Ante Up and WAITED for my name to be called..wow..a neat concept..or next time I will cruise the room and take advantage of any opportunity I see to jump the line.

Oh and the PBKC has a chance at greatness..please pick a SAFE area for the new location...MANGONIA PARK is not safe..for that matter what security measures are you taking to provide your customers traveling to and from the room with what could be large sums of $$$..

Let's be honest..1 mile to the north at Westgate is a HIGH CRIME area..

Its the dealer that broke the rule. Dealer should be written up for that.
If the player was a regular to the room then he should take part blame but he was brand new to the room and an employee offered him to sit down.

We are looking to put this new facility in a more upscale area.

Next time you are in say hi. Make sure you say Barry from 2+2. I have alot of players saying hi everyday.

Gentlemen,

We have clear guidelines in regards to seating. We invested in a computerized seating system in order prevent this. I appologize that the
dealer broke the rules. We are always reminding them of what is supposed to
happen, some of them seem to selectively forget.

I will reiterate to the dealers, the importance of using the board for open seats.

Take care.

Alpha,

I do not think I can win any arguments in regards to the costs of playing poker at PBKC on this forum. Obviously players would like to pay less. That is a consumers job, and I respect that.

I have no problem discussing this item in private messages or in person. I think that would be a fair way to communicate your thoughts or concerns.

Please feel free to do so. I will be more than happy to respond in the same manner.

Take care.

Quick update:

The rulemaking session with the Florida DBPR (Division of Business and Professional Regulation) went very well.

It seems that the division is comfortable with rooms controlling all variables of the game, as long as they fall within the state statutes.

I have been involved in this process the last 3 years and this is the first time they have been so receptive. The new Director of the division as well as the Deputy Secretary are really working with us to provide a nice product.

Only concern we have right now is the ability for cash to play. This is a state statute and it looks like we have no shot of making this happen.

Other than that, we look to be in good shape.

Take care.

Use some empty space at the Breakers in Palm Beach. That'd be sweet.

^^^^ This has to be a level...
Palm Beach is such a highly monitored zip code most of us degens would not pass the smell test...I mean they have cameras set up to scan license plates for all sorts of open tickets..warrants..etc
The blue collar worker guys that go in there everyday to manicure the lawns or work on the houses have to withstand the security checkpoints and they WORK there..

Just Lol..I am thinking that a location off of Southern between TPKE and 441 would bring the upscale clients without having to pay upscale land prices..

And thanks for answering my questions...or complaints...

I just remember readin that you guys were thinking about a location in Mangonia Park near the Tr-Rail and I started to panic...Mangonia Park is extremely dangerous in daylight hours...not to mention the stigma of the poor lady who won about $6k at Bingo there who was followed home by 4-6 Pesky Amish folk who stabbed her and stole her winnings....

That's where the Jai Alai was. But it makes no sense to put one there because that's only 10-15 mins from the track.

It'll either be way up in Gardens or Juptier (trying to suck the life out Ft Pierce Jai Alai's room), or down like Boca (trying to pick up some kibbles and bits from the Isle, Mardi Gras, etc.

Mark my words, with the number of rooms in Florida, and especialy with all of the concentration of places in South Florida, its only a matter of time (my guess is 3 years) before you see some of these rooms buying each other out.

The nice thing is that, as the poker players spread out across all of these places, the competition issue will become critical, and we might actually not have to pay $6 for a bourbon. Maybe give us routine players a sammich or somethin.'

I was told today the Palm Beach Post had something in it that the new location would be around 441 and Palmetto Park Rd, is there any truth to this, I went to the PBP web site but found nothing.
I would think that this is too close to Coconut Creek, with them getting BJ and a new location I would think this was a David vs Goliath scenario.

Higher end furniture will be within this area. We feel that it is good to have a seperate area, but also allow the area to be viewed by the other players also.
So they may feel some of that excitement.

Gambit, if you have any other ideas, please let me know. It is the players room after all!!

Noah,

I must say you have an excellent approach regarding your customers consideration and feedback. I live on the other coast but I will come and play in your room for the simple fact that you care about providing world class service.

I looked at your monthly revenue figures,(public record), and it is no wonder that your room is crushing it. Keep up the great attitude and approach it is a nice change from what I see on the gulf side.

2nd the congrats for breaking the $1,000,000 mark in a month and being number 1 in the state for parimutuels. Was that the first time PBKC cracked the million dollar ceiling?

We may replace those with more poker tables.

It did go well for the first year, but obviously the Hard Rock can offer more in the way of Three Card then we are allowed by law.

We plan on spreading this game. What blinds could you see going on a

We want to spread the level that would consistantly go, ovbiously.

Take care.

I apologize but I feel the need to shed some light on the quoted issues of paying for parking and entrance. What you paid a dollar for is to be able to park in the preferred parking lot. When you pull onto the property if you were to turn right, instead of the left you made, you would find more than enough free parking. So, in the end you have a choice; free, preferred and oh yea, valet! Now, as for the one dollar entrance fee. Yes, you typically have to pay a buck to get into the joint. But this is only while the racing is going on. If you came later in the day you would see that there is no entrance fee after racing hours. If you want to play during the racing hours and you're really concerned about the dollar entrance fee, they will wave it and give you a players club card if you fill out a two second questionarre. Hope that clears up the whole issue of nickel and diming.

Thank you for clearing those items up Ritzsrh.

Everything he listed is factual. Valet, in my opinion, for $2 is a great deal. You will not see that price at any of the competitors.

If anyone needs help, or would like to be sent information regarding a players card, please private message me.

Please tell me PBKC will charge time at 5-10 instead of a rake and that they will not drop the jackpot at 5-10 and up.

We are doing time in the larger games. 5-10 may be the cutoff.

No jackpot rake in larger games also.
