Haha. Yes , there is no jackpot in the 1-1 PLO game. And it was I who won the one and only jackpot in the 1-2-5 PLO game! My quad tens were beaten by a jack high straight flush, on the first of three runs after getting all in on the TsTc7s. I won only 1 of the three runs. The next day the old codgers at O8 complained and they took the jackpot away from PLO.

It's 4:45pm on Friday at oceans, and only 3 names on PLO list including me, seems odd, did I miss something thought this sh*t should be running already.

Woops stumbled back onto this post 2 weeks later... I should have clarified that I was talking about the 1/1 NL game... sorry, I failed to make that clear since you guys were talking about PLO.

Sky-
I actually went out to pala last month for one of the games "hosted" by our friend "V" with the mustache. 'twas fun except for running like death.
PLO has been going strong on Fridays and based on what I know, the 1-1 PLO game has a permanent $3 drop and no jackpot. Give it a try. And the email group will keep u up to date as to when the game might run / is running.
I'm outta town and won't be able to make it this week so good luck.

last night I was at Oceans and sat in the 1-2 PLO briefly while waiting for my LHE seat (and got stacked once in the process, good times). The game seemed pretty healthy - I left at about midnight and still saw 4-5 players. Friendly players, good action, all around fun game.

It's too bad that the 40-80 LHE runs fairly consistently on Fridays or I'd love to play in the PLO game more often.

Does the big NL game usually go on Wednesday or Thursday? Staying downtown, but If I can't get in the mix at Palomar will probably drive up

Thanks

10-20 NLHE goes Tuesday & Friday.. Get there by 11 AM on Fri, 1 PM on Tues, if you want to get on the first table. Second table usually start late afternoon, more reliably on Friday.

Otherwise the 5-5 is very reliable from 11 AM on every day.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Will have to make sure I get into town on Tuesday from now on. Guess I'll stick to Palomar til the weekend

Seeing if there is any interest in starting up an Ocean's 11 No Limit Discussion group. I play daily at Oceans and it would be nice to get a group together to discuss hands strategies and everthing else to do with poker. Message me if interested.

Nice to see this thread. I'm interested in contributing or as gutshot1 mentioned, starting up a NL discussion group. I'm Oceanside's current busted pro by way of Vegas. I've been out here for approximately three months doing the Benno's deal (locals should know what this means), applying for jobs, etc. Anyway, if there's anything I can contribute, I will.

I'm a regular 10-20NL player, but that game has always been a little big for me. At the same time, the 5-5 is a little small. There is a 5-10/3000 cap option to be spread, but it rarely is.

Anybody interested in trying to get it going semi-regularly?--Idk, maybe Wednesday's (since Tuesday and Friday are already for the 10-20). Also, I know Village Club has a regular 10-20 on Monday and Thursday, so it seems like Wednesday might be a good choice.

how big does the 10-20NL play? Avg people's stacks. How tough is the game?

How large is the player pool would you say? Does Amos still play in that game?

Quite a bit of variability. Most people buy in for 3-4K with a few that short-stack for 1.5K, and a few that sit 10K+ deep. Big variety of players depending on the day/time--good and bad pros, good and bad rec players, and everything in between. Quite a few new players recently; mostly good internet players (going live after BF) unfortunately. I have no idea of size of pool, but I can find out from guy who is/has been the organizer.

Amos still plays, but not regularly--cool guy!

I believe almost every Friday has 2 tables going by about 6PM. Tuesdays I think has been about 50/50 as to getting second table up.

I've played in the 10-20 nlh at Oceans regularly since its beginning and in the 10-10 before that. A couple of quick thoughts:

If you want the 5-10 to go, make sure to put your name on the list and encourage your friends to do likewise... EVERY TIME YOU COME IN OR CALL IN. Tell the floorman you're willing to play short to get it started, especially Russ, who IMHO, is absolutely responsive to player requests. That means being willing to start 4 handed or more. Then, play short, if necessary, for the next 4 or 5 hours ... even if the game is tough. If you build it, they will come. The game will eventually fill and you will like it. A few weeks ago the 10-20 didn't start right away & the 5-10 went instead. It was awesome.

The 10-20 has been very, very tough for the last few months. This is partly because of the influx of very good internet players who have recently landed on our shores, as other posters have mentioned. Even worse, few, if any of the formerly regular recreational players show up that much anymore. I make this observation from the perspective of having won in each of my last six 10-20 sessions at Oceans. It's a tough game. One (possible) bright note is that this past Friday there were 3 new (at least to me) 10-20 faces who played OK, but weren't "All That".

Good info here. I've also noticed some drop off from regular rec players--most of them are pretty smart guys and I suspect they will not regularly play in a game that they don't think they have some reasonable chance to beat. I think your assessment of game being recently "tougher" is correct.

Can you comment on what made the 5-10 game so "awesome"? I'm sure it's hard with an N=1. I heard about that game going once recently; I was curious as to how it played.

The 5-10 that went a few Fridays ago was made up of a few regular 10-20 players and some very active 5-5 players (some of who used to play 10-20 and still may play sometimes). The dynamic between current and former 10-20 participants may have been responsible for some of the "I can outplay you" kind of plays that were being made. Also, the 5-10 in this session attracted active aggressive 5-5 players, not the tight ones.Whatever it was, no one in that 5-10 game seemed to be playing very tight.
