- the layer surrounding the core is the non-pro regs and weekend warriors. Like the pros, they'll play normally unless something drastic changes, but they will be there only for the good promos and weekends.

- the recreational players form the next outer layer. They'll play once per week or so, but their presence depends on quality of the room, promos, entertainment, how much they're up or down, etc.

- the outmost layer of the circle is formed by people who wander in, out of towners, people who lost in table games who want to "slow down," etc. These are the people that really soften the games up just enough so the recreational players don't go broke quickly. They're also the people that aren't there to play poker and could be negatively impacted by the room's relocation.

The deceiving aspect of this model is that the people who are affected most by the relocation make up the thinnest outer layer of the circle. However, it's important to recognize that the layers depend on each other. As each layer is peeled away, it weakens the one beneath it until it eventually peels away itself. It's a slow process, but it does happen. I've seen it happen to my hometown's room, which is the entire reason I moved to the DMV area.
Great post. I think we all need to give JG a break here though and let things develop. His job is to manage the poker room and negotiate with the MGM higher ups. I'm pretty sure he is in there fighting for players and trying to make things better overall for all the poker players. Plus at the same time appeasing the MGM money hungry corporate bosses. He is the one person who can keep things going in a positive direction and we are in here backing him into a corner. ITS BS. Poker players never look themselves in the mirror as being the problem also. MGM is going to do what they are going to do and no one can get in the way to stop it. Suck it up and be glad you have a room to enjoy in and play. check

I agree - JG is the best and his room is amazing. Just giving input on the possible effects of relocation.

My post wasn't directed at you at all just fyi, I really think its spot on regarding the layers of players, and what happens to poker rooms over time. Just got tied in with my post. Should have separated it somehow.

I will be in the area in July. I look forward to playing here. I believe the manager here used to be at the Beau Rivage where I play a lot.

For slot play in Las Vegas M life casinos, you receive ten (10) Tier Credits for every Base Point earned.
When playing at Beau Rivage or Gold Strike Tunica, you receive two (2) Tier Credits for every Base Point earned.
At MGM Grand Detroit, you receive one (1) Tier Credit for every Base Point earned.

cant find anything on mLife's webpage for Tier credit rate at MGM NH.
Also cant figure out how much coin-in per Base Point for either slots or video poker.

I was reading on another site that many people believe it is 4 TC/BP but it was unconfirmed and also doubted by a few.
edit: coin-in/BP seems to be an issue. On this same site people stated that the hosts won't tell them and said it is proprietary info, and that empirical evidence has shown that it seems to vary by machine.

thx.
mgm being secretive on what coin-in is needed to get a tier credit is really shady.
that should be basic info!
both md live and Horseshoe lists coin-in requirements very clearly.

It is definitely 4 TC per point on good VP machines - at least the ones near the poker room. Confirmed through play and by emailing MGM. I dont know about hosts hiding the information. I emailed the general MLife address and after being bounced around a couple times, wound up with someone at MGMNH. Now for me, it was an easier "excuse" as there had been a machine outage while I was playing and I wanted to confirm the points and TC I had earned. They could not have been nicer, earned 1980 TC / 495 points - exactly 4 TC per point. Have been told other slots are 10 TC / point but it depends on the slots.

Honestly this is easy enough to confirm if you note your starting points and tier credits then play a quick session on a single machine/game and track it.

And yes, this is garbage compared to what you will earn in LV. And yes, it is *definitely* shady that they are not more forthcoming with this information.

Live poker room has been operating on 2 floors for 5 years. Both of them above the main casino floor. There has been no problems other than having no bathrooms upstairs. Players put up with it and there has been no issues...

At the final table of the inaugural 50K tournament at MGM.

Well run event, 185 players with 13.8K up top.

JG was gracious enough to give the final table players a food comp.

I hope this event runs regularly and becomes a staple event on Sunday's.

When I was leaving at 11pm the tourney was down to final 4. Seems like the structure might be slightly too good. I'd think they'd want to get it close to 10 hours. But then I'm not a tournament player. At any rate seems like the best regular tournament in the area by far.

Good work on the June promos too. I happen to love the hot seat - just the right amount of get/keep asses in chairs without affecting the play of the game. And though I probably can't make any of the hot table times there's a definite buzz about them in the 1/3 community at least.

Room does nothing but continue to impress.

Quite a stretch to classify both floors being "above the main casino floor" as it's just a few steps up to an elevated location. Not a good comparison.
