Iuomo, I remember when you posted about your conversation with the new manager. At the time, it made me hopeful, but all of the changes seem to have been negative. Basically, players are paying more and more for less and less. Unsurprisingly, the player base has shrunk to new lows. At this point, it's much more than a matter of location; players who would actually prefer the Meadows have voted with their feet.
Where are the positive changes? No changes to upgrade the general professionalism of the room. No reach-out from the casino/room to the former players. Nothing new or interesting to bring players back on a regular basis.
Cash games are raked 5+2, but on a more aggressive schedule, and there is no rake break until 5-handed. Popular promos are gone. Complicated, poorly-explained, and ever-changing promos are back. Comps have been limited/reduced, but it's kind of squirrelly - what is your balance, can it be used, and is there even a concept of a balance? All unclear. Bravo/web is rarely updated. Tournament juice and add-ons are way up, tournament structure is much worse, and tournament management is still MIA. Flooring remains the "we'll make it up as we go along" style that we've all grown accustomed to.
The dealers are still friendly, and the room is still beautiful and comfortable. It's still a lovable "Three Stooges" experience, and a lot of players would be happy to come and play if the Meadows could only provide a basic, functioning poker room.
But until then, it's easy to find many of their regular players at the Rivers. In fact, this conversation happens regularly at the Rivers whenever Meadows refugees are seated together. The players are still ready to play, but the Meadows needs to step up and provide a poker room.
Maybe Penn National will be interested, but maybe not. If anyone notices new signs of life, please update here. I'd like to go back and visit once circumstances change.
