Agreed.

That would be worse than what happened to me a year ago. I'm sure others had a near bad beat experience, but I was playing $2/5 NL, had $800 stack, was dealt pocket 4s, which obviously I knew wouldn't qualify, but I wasn't going to fold them. Raised to $20.00, called in 3 spots. Flop was 4 5 6, bet $55, call, call. Turn 4x, bet $140, P2 calls, P3 raises to $375, I shove, P2 shoves, P3 mucks and shows AJ P2 turns over 7 8 and I was sad

Yah...i hate that it has to be quad 8s or better....quads are quads.

Following up on my post...3 floors confirmed that only the 2 straight flushes would play.

Just received a letter from Foxwoods. Rake will be $5.00 starting October first and they are ending the Bad Beat Jackpots.

Yes, foxwoods is raising their rake +$1. They're also discontinuing the bad beat jackpot.
Starts Oct 1

They got rid of their black card, then Lowered the points per hour, now upping the rake, and getting rid of the bad beat.

Ill be playing at Mohegan

Are they keeping the high hand promos? If so I assume they'll still be raking $1 for that but only during the promo?

Only a smartphone is allowed to listen to music ONLY is the only acceptable device on the tables now.
I hope this is true.
I really dont mind people on devices here or there or reading a book or even watching a video (or eating), but as usual, people have to take it to another level.
People are f'n camped out at their seat! Annoying to sit next to someone with a full size ipad on a stand on the rail, headphones, phone on the rail, texting, watching a movie, chip rack and drinks, and... slow to act.
Why can't people remember there are 9 other people sharing the game with them?
The problem is the casino allows things not because it's good for the players or because its fair, but because they dont want to piss off their customers. People think if its officially allowed, then it must also be OK. It's not always the case. Use your common sense. Have some consideration. It's an inherently social game. Be a good guy- even if the rules dont say you have to

Re: Foxwoods Resort·Casino (Mashantucket, CT) -- FAQ in OP, updated 2017.05.09

I agree that sunglasses and backpacks are ridiculous but you're not mentioning their cash high hand promos.
They wont ever be able to compete with foxwoods on that front, just because of the amount of tables they have. About half of what foxwoods has.
But the point is, I feel that foxwoods' treatment of their poker players has been declining, punctuated by this increase in rake at the tail end of decreasing every other incentive. If it were just one of those things I might feel differently.
And on the other side, I feel that mohegan has always tried to be as accommodating as possible.
Their room is much smaller, they have less hotel rooms to give away, they don't have the high limit players or game variety foxwoods has had for years. It's tough for them to compete.
What they do have is, a nicer room, better staff, in a nicer casino, and NOT planning on raising their rake.
Are they poker angels with nothing but the players best interests at heart? No, but as consumers we will only be treated as well or bad as we allow them to treat us. The only real voice we have are the choices we make. Thats why i will choose to play at mohegan in spite of their shortcomings. At least I've always felt they are trying to improve and consider the players.
Don't mismanage your casino and choose a lazy fix by taking more from the players

I can't believe nobody on the board knew about this before the letter showed up. Foxwoods isn't exactly known for its high secrets.

Re: Foxwoods Resort·Casino (Mashantucket, CT) -- FAQ in OP, updated 2017.05.09

Are they going to refrain from taking the "$1 bonus drop" on days when there's no high hand promo running or will they take it 24/7 to fund the account that pays the high hand promos? In other words if I go there on days where there's no high hand promo running am I going to have to pay for a Foxwoods promo they use to lure players in on days I'm not there... will $6 be getting sucked out of every pot even on days when you have zero chance of winning a high hand and obviously a BBJ? If so just what I want to do, pay for Foxwoods advertising campaigns out of my own pocket!!!

Re: Foxwoods Resort·Casino (Mashantucket, CT) -- FAQ in OP, updated 2017.05.09

I don't think they will be taking a "$1 bonus drop" during the hours the promo is not running.

But consider this- that dollar taken during high hand promo hours has been funding BOTH the high hand payouts AND contributing to the bad beat jackpot. When the BBJP is gone, what happens to the portion of money that used to contribute to it? I'm guessing it won't be coming back to the players. They'll probably tell us it will go into a BS promotions fund, which would just be money they used to fund that we're contributing more to now.

Basically, they're taking more of our money via promo dollars AND from a new rake

The money HAS to come back to the players. Gaming regulations require it.

This is disingenuous.

Mohegan had a $1k/$600 HH every 20 minutes last Monday and again a week from Monday. This weekend (Fri-Sun) they have $1k HH every hour. They also have Saturday HH which is up to $1200 per hour(I won $1100 three weeks ago with AAA/KK). The 3-hour HH is 24/7 continual whenever a special HH promo isn't running.

If you play 72 hours in any given month (16.63 hours per week) at Mohegan you receive a $10 food coupon each day for an entire month ($300 value). Foxwoods is 20 hours in a week for one $15 food coupon although they also do the free buffet once per week. For 2/5 players the Mohegan hourly comp is nearly double that of Foxwoods.

Re: Foxwoods Resort·Casino (Mashantucket, CT) -- FAQ in OP, updated 2017.05.09

It will be interesting to see what, if any changes occur after the Wynn and MGM open poker rooms in Mass . I travel to the upstate NY area and haven't seen any changes to Turning Stone since 2 poker rooms ( Rivers and Del Lago) opened fairly close by.

I believe the casinos/ poker rooms will adjust to their regional attendance and probably not change much vs trying to lure players from further away, but we'll see.

As a rec player, I personally like the BBJ's, but wouldn't make a much longer drive for it. The High Hand promo's are something that would get me to take a road trip. Just my 2 cents...

That's a good point. But I wonder if marketing for promotions is included in what the money can be kept for. From what I understand, a certain percentage of the bad beat jackpot was rolled over to seed the next jackpot, but a percentage was also taken out for the house. If that's true, then i don't think the is "coming back to the players" in the sense that most players would appreciate.
As someone put it earlier. "Paying for their advertising"

Reminds me of when states tell citizens the lotto profits go to an education budget- as if that money doesn't free up monies elsewhere. Slush funds.

Remember, the casino would never make a change if they thought it would lose them money. They have no reason to change the BBJP if it were a wash. What does that leave?

The buffet promo is over.

Seems like October 1st is a bad day to be a poker player at Foxwoods.

10/01/16: Black card program scrapped and comps reduced to 1.7pts/hr

10/01/17: rake increased and BBJ promo scrapped
