Going there the weekend of the 23rd for Business. Hope to play Fri night and Saturday. Any advice on where to go for food, etc? How do I get to the Casino? I am right downtown staying near Blvd Rene Levesque. Haven't been to Montreal since I was a kid for our school trip!
you are real close to the casino you can cab it there
Playing here recently dude on my right was practically on my lap and refused to move; I had just posted my big blind and decided to move a few spots to be away from him. So I wait a couple of hands until it is my big blind again (a couple people came in). So I posted my big blind, did not play any other hands. I post my big blind again.
Dealer now insists I have to surrender as well.
I object, floor is called, floor demands I surrender my small blind (I am going to be in the small blind the very next hand and pay it then!).
How long is the wait on a Friday/Saturday? Do you need to call ahead? I normally play in Niagara where there is a 1 1/2 -2 hr wait? I'll be there this weekend!

I was there a few months ago... Wait for 1/2 can be 1-2 hours, depending on line. 2-5 isn't too long usually less than 30 mins... And there is no call in advance, which they need to fix.

they fixed the 1/2 waiting time, its pretty fast now.
$25 chips aren't common but they aren't exactly rare. Sometimes, you'd see a black chip or two out there. I once had a black chip as a card protector once (thinly veiled brag). If the dealer notices you have a massive stack of redbirds, they'd offer to change it to greens or blacks for you. Sunday night isn't a bad time to go but Saturday night and even Sunday afternoon is better.
no udpates for awhile
suggestion for new buyin structure:
1/2: 100$ min, 300$ max
2/5: 200$ min, 750$ max
5/5: 400$ min, 1500$ max <---not a stake that's absolutely necessary
5/10: 500$ min, 2500$ max
10/20: 1000$ min, no cap
dunno if anyone else would prefer this to the current structure? I know I do.

I absolutely agree with this.
The 5/5 game isn't necessary, and the buy-in structure of the current games are pretty bad.
5-10 runs at random times. They take $15 a hand (max) if the game is spread in the high limit room, otoh you get free food and alcohol (i.e. $25 steak or w/e). Also it is a $1500 min $5000 max game.
OR! They can spread the same game, outside, in the main poker room, with the same buy in structure at $10 max rake no free food.
Going to be in town from the 10th to the 15th to visit family. It's paining me to leave Vegas right now. Anyone want to meet up and save me from family hell? PM me I'll buy you some poutine or something.
Dammit, I'm leaving Montreal on the 10th. Well, while you're in town, other than hitting up the casino, you should go to Schwartz's deli. It's on Saint Laurent and they have AMAZING smoked meat sandwiches. I would rip the spine out of 1 baby seal and use it to club another baby seal to death for a free Schwartz's smoked meat sandwich and I am the president of the Baby Seal Protection Club at McGill (I'm joking about the last bit). The classic combo would be a pickle, some fries, the sandwich (ask for medium), and a cherry coke. Also, my personal favourite bar in Montreal is McLean's on Saint Catherine and Peel. There's really nothing touristy out of the ordinary about it but it's a damn good bar. They make an unrealistically good Long Island and just generally always have a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. And if you're into clubbing or would rather be packed into a tight flashing room rather than dealing with family, go to 737. Yes the DJs are sub par, yes the bartenders are so skilled they can screw up a vodka and tonic (imo the most unscrewupable drink), and yes the cover is $15, but it's on top of a skyscraper; it is LITERALLY fly and it's worth it just to experience the club once.
If you do end up visiting McLean's and if you see a tall, blonde bartendress named Anna, tell her Frank told you about the place. No, they're not going to take you into a secret under ground room with a high stakes poker game going, no they're not going to give you free drinks all night but I'd appreciate it if you would pm her reaction. Answer "yes" if she asks "you mean Frank as in the tall, long haired, Asian guy?"
