Otherwise it was a typical low limit, rake trap game.

Compared to hold em there is a lot more information to keep track of and I was getting overwhelmed (your cards, your opponents upholdings, folded cards, pot size, pot odds, etc), especially since it's a low limit game and they expect everyone to act quickly. It'd be an interesting challenge to try and get good at this game, but ultimately for naught since there isn't really any money to be won.
Interesting how it has changed since the room first opened in 98.
At that time you would almost always find 4, sometimes 5, 15/30 limit 7 stud games going, but very few a lower limits though there were some.
That type of stud action went on for quite a number of years, but just slowly dwindled to nothing. Different breed of players.

I wish they would run a lower limit mixed game. I think 75/150 is the one that typically goes.

Rake changed from $4+2 to $3+3.

Anyone find out the rationale?

They usually do that to fund the football pools.

Is it still cold in the room where I won’t look like a clown with a hoodie when it’s 85 outside?

Scotty Nguyen was playing saw him leave kind of random . Good room haven’t played in a while. I never really thought of it because of the proximity to Vegas but do people play for a living here? I just assumed if you wanted to most people would go to Vegas but this is a pretty big room with a lotta games.

It's a 5 hour drive. Not a trivial evening out playing poker to make that trip. You'd have to spend the night unless you're a bit bat**** crazy.

How's the 40 80 mix game? I called they said it's all draw games, which is fine. Good game on a Sunday night?

Edit: also I'm only used to the traditional draws like badugi deuce badeucey etc. Not sure if Archie or whatever else have a steep learning curve?

Hey sorry the thread on Talking Stick is super outdated, the FAQ OP is from 2010.

Are these the same casinos/poker room? My google maps is showing me two seperate locations.

Also after checking on Bravo it appears they have just spread limit holdem games? I'm guessing 3-300 Holdem is the closest thing to a 1-2, i'm guessing that it is a $3 blind game?

Third question, someone said the rake is $3 + $3....wtf does this mean, they're taking out $3 a hand for jackpots?

Is there a better place to play around Scottsdale (Wild Horse Pass, etc) or is this the best option?

Talking Stick is the Casino AZ casino with the poker room. It is located on Indian Bend, as Bravo says.

Yes, the lowest "NL" game is 3-300 which is a spread limit game with 2/3 blinds and bets and raises can be 3-300. So if you bet 300, your opponent can raise to 600. The max buy-in is also 300, so you need two people sitting at $1k+ each to have the spread limit really impact a hand. There are 3-300 games around the clock and many tables to choose from during prime hours.

The next best option is Wild Horse Pass, their main game is 2-100, with 1/2 blinds and a $100 max bet, so their max bet comes into play much easier/quicker than at Casino AZ.

Yes, the 3+3 is rake + jackpot drop. The rake will be the same at Wild Horse Pass, but have a bigger impact since the blinds and stakes are lower.

Does it use the lhe bet and raise cap? When San Jose had spread limit the bet cap was 4.

Same at TS - bet and 3 raises, at least as of the last time I was there (couple of months ago). For me one of the real advantages with our game in Tucson - no cap on raises.

if you are going to have a cap on raises then it should be only on raises say of at least half of the max. to prevent the first few people to raise min amounts to shut out further betting in each round.

I noticed that when I played at Desert Diamond. Where do you play? I run like pure crap at Del Sol, and always get a table filled with people old enough to be my father, and I'm friggin ancient myself.

Hey, that's half the fun. You could tell when the table didn't like straddles. 3 raises pre for $5 and everyone gets to see the flop for $20, heh heh.

At Talking STick (CasinoAZ) Drop is 2(jackpot) + 4 right now.
it changed to 3+3 for a period of time to re establish the PPF for football and then reverted back to Normal some time ago.

.
I play locally at Del Sol, but not in those 1-2 games you are talking about. Fridays we've developed a group that plays 2-5-10, with the 10 straddle optional some sessions and mandatory others, depending on who's in the game.

Starts midafternoon and runs til 3-4 am normally and occasionally much longer (again depends on who's there and who's stuck).

It periodically gets off on other days but pretty reliable on Friday. There is also a 1-3 game that seems to go several days a week, it's a 500 max buy-in game that has a lot more action than the 1-2 games.

Thanks for the info. I had pretty much written off that place and only played when I went to Vegas. The bad thing about that approach is I'm so rusty I only get back to my normal mediocre level when it's time to go home.
