Using PT4 to improve my MTTSNG game Using PT4 to improve my MTTSNG game

Hey guys,

I recently got back into playing micro MTTSNGs. Usually 18 and 45 man.

I was using Jivaro as a HUD, but I found it didn't give me enough useful stats, but rather some basic ones.

I just started using Pokertracker 4. Its great to keep track of my results, but is there a way to use it to improve your game and fix leaks for MTTSNGs?

I saw a video of a guy using something called leak tracker to analyze the cash game side of things, as far as comparing the users stats to winning players stats. Is that function available for the MTTSNG side as well?

Is there another way I can use PT4 to improve my game rather than just track results?

Well for starters iŽve created customs TAG lables to mark hands while playing, even if the decission is "std" or straight forward i still will usually mark the hand for later play with the situation playing the "what if..." game.
I also created filters to isolate common MTTSNG situations and go over hands in depth and break down the spot, situations like BvB, HU, Late Position Opens, BB defend, Open Shoving, Calling an Open Shove, setmining, among others. These are also some of my custom TAG lables but the difference is that i also use effective stack sizes and table size (to differentiate from FR, 6-max, 3 handed and HU situations).

No that im aware off, best thing you can do is get yourself a big database from the games/formats youŽre playing and conduct a "population tendency study" which you can do by creating a "All Players" Report in PT4 and just play with the filters and add the required statistics, you can also filter out bad/maniac players and just focus on the best/winningest ones by either using the filter expression and based on either VPIP, PFR, 3bet% and/or EV ROI.

Cheers, hope that helps.

Ok thanks for the input man. I'll have a look around in PT4 for those features. All I've been able to figure out so far is how to set up the HUD, and how to view my results. I'll work on the reports side of things and look into viewing those common tricky spots.

Here are some basic youtube video tutorials on how to work with the PT4 filters feature to isolate those spots...

Thanks man! I'll check those out now.

I just recently figured out how to tag hands for review later, so that will be really helpful.

Learning all this seems really overwhelming at first when I didn't know anything, but as I add things piece by piece, its giving me alot of confidence to succeed at the small stakes, and hopefully higher up

These are my PT4 tags btw, delete it all the default ones that comes with PT4 and created my own, you can do that too by just going into Configure>Tags

And yeah it can be a bit overwhelming at first, i got a lot of experience on PT4 i even make custom stats so feel free to PM if u need further assitance, cheers and gl at the tables.

Awesome idea man. Makes it way more specific for review! I have been labelling some of these tough push/fold/call spots for review, but after doing so, what is the best way to learn from those spots or figure out the right play? Is it to just post in forums or is there another way to figure out the correct play?

I appreciate your help and suggestions man. GL to you too...and I'll definitely be in touch

Personaly i just tag a bunch of hands even if im sitting with 8bb and holding AA im marking the hand for later play with that spot and run a "what if..." game and build my pushing ranges.
I also have a specific report for 12bb-18bb effective stacks to run simulations on either HRC and/or CREV to determine what lines generate the most EV is it by open shoving, r/c or is it better to just r/f, its very hard/tough to run a simluation based on CREV for r/c situations cuz uŽll have to define some postflop assumptions based on population tendencies but is still better than not having anything at least iŽve like a foundation from which iŽll adapt depending on the villin on hand, but u can run those spots on HRC as well but without any postflop play just preflop profitability.

But ultimally it will all depend on villains tendencies, if theyŽre passive or aggro you might wanna just open shove A9s or 66 with 16bb rather than r/c or viceversa, r/c might be a better line to take with those cards, ICM also have a major impact on our decission making, a hand can be very +cEV but -$EV and even if it is slightly +$EV wise it might still be better to just r/f or even open fold it due to future EV (youŽre playing on a soft tabe filled with exploitable players) etc, it all depends on the situation, after all, poker is a game of situations and not cards :P
