General question about 45s vs 45s General question about 45s vs 45s

12-12-2011 , 05:27 PM
I've been playings 18s / 45s / 180s for a few months now (have nearly 4000 games down).

Mainly play the 45s. I know my sample size is not that huge (probably played 2000 45s), but I am getting my arse absolutely owned in the $15s.

I'm 1.5K up in the $7s and 2K down in the $15s.

Are they seriously that much harder?

Adjustments I am not making?

Is this just a sample size issue?

Fortunately the 18s and 180s have meant that I am not a losing player in these things for now.

Would appreciate some advice as to how I can win at 15s!

I'm the other way around. But I don't have a huge sample either.

9% ROI in 7s 2,4k games
17% ROI in 15s 1,3k games

How many 15s did you play in total?

1000ish (I think). I lost a lot my hands in my HEM database. I know that is nowhere near enough to be meaningful but it is the difference with the 7s that I find interesting.

Yep, I'm a 45er, mixing 7s and 15s (and 3.5s during non peak times)
I have the exact same problem.
I have 2.4% ROI in 15s over 1400 games .
18% ROI in 7s over 3300 games.
I think that's a big enough sample size to conclude that 15s are hard. Can often double up early in 7s with premiums, but less so in the 15s. Also people know how to call better when shallow BVB for example. I think there are certain shoves I make in 7s that I wouldn't make in 15s (trying to adjust myself, but not sure I'm doing any good).
Hope things turn around for you in the 15s.

LOL I'm jealous of both of you!

My ROI is 22% in the 7s and -22% in the 15s.

You think your sample is big enough to know if the 15s are that much harder?

Yeah I think so. I mean, I've probably played about 15K 45s. Only the rest were 6s/12s. I seem to remember doing a lot better at the 6s, but don't have the numbers.
So yeah, I reckon the 15s are that much harder.
Also, I often spot 15+ good players in 15/45s, and never close to that in 7s.

7+ wining players at every table in 15s

5% ROI is dream... so try to count variance

How much harder will be difficult to quantify, but every format gets harder as the buyin goes up, because fewer fish can afford it.

Possibly both of these, but it's usually best to assume you still have leaks. Get to work plugging them.

  • study push/fold (eg with sngwiz or similar program)
  • post hands
  • maybe find study buddy to discuss
  • maybe consider coaching
