.5 18 man - Folding T4o in SB vs BB - blinds 400/800 .5 18 man - Folding T4o in SB vs BB - blinds 400/800

With five players left, and I'm essentially tied for 4th/5th, I folded the T4o in a SB vs BB shove spot.

Is this a spot to fold and preserve my stack? Or should this be a shove? Or is it close. Not much data on BB. Only seven hands with a 0.00 VPIP.

PokerStars - 200/400 Ante 25 NL - Holdem - 5 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

BTN: 9.73 BB (VPIP: 23.95, PFR: 20.86, 3Bet Preflop: 2.00, Hands: 170)
Hero (SB): 8.82 BB
BB: 8.18 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 7)
UTG: 26.5 BB (VPIP: 29.70, PFR: 21.93, 3Bet Preflop: 9.23, Hands: 203)
CO: 14.28 BB (VPIP: 33.33, PFR: 40.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 6)

5 players post ante of 0.06 BB, Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.81 BB) Hero has 4 T

fold, fold, fold, fold

BB wins 1.31 BB

I would let this go. It's probably a bit tight, and if stacks setup is a little different + I have a little more info on the ICM awareness of BB, it could become a shove. However, T4o is even -EV in cEV with these stacksizes, plus players usually call too wide rather than too tight in ICM spots at microstakes (which obv. is not good for us here).

Thanks for the feedback! What is cEV by the way?

cEV means Chip EV. Basicly means if you get it in vs. one player 1st hand, and you have an edge of 51% vs. his 49%, it's a profitable play based on Chip EV. In 18 mans for example the rule of thumb is to play solely Chip EV at the 1st table (which is not 100% correct, but you can't go wrong with it longterm).
At the final table (or in any format where you approach for the ITM places) not Chip EV is mandatory, it's $EV what you go by (or more widely known as ICM) to play somewhat correct.

Ok, I get what your are saying a little bit. Making a Chip EV positive play is always correct in cash games, but may not always be correct in tournaments based on ICM and the payout structure.

That's correct, unless you're heads up in a tournament then I believe you can convert it back to Cev
