Howdy y'all. Having a bit of debate (with myself mostly up until now) in reviewing a hand from my latest session; I had no real image to speak of having moved tables recently, so I'm unknown, I am vs unknowns. What does 2+2 think would have been the optimal play in this position...

Poker Stars $2.28+$0.22 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t200/t400 Blinds + t50 - 8 players
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

UTG+1: t8478 M = 8.48
MP1: t8194 M = 8.19
MP2: t9574 M = 9.57
CO: t8349 M = 8.35
BTN: t8240 M = 8.24
SB: t6956 M = 6.96
Hero (BB): t5301 M = 5.30
UTG: t6460 M = 6.46

Pre Flop: (t1000) Hero is BB with T 9
1 fold, UTG+1 calls t400, 2 folds, CO calls t400, BTN calls t400, SB calls t200, Hero checks

Flop: (t2400) 7 4 8 (5 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, CO checks, BTN bets t1200, SB folds, Hero ???

What does anyone think about open shoving the flop, just curious.

Don't hate it but a c/shove accomplishes the same thing but also gives us a little extra in the pot for when villain b/f.

yeah I like a shove here, c/shove is better for the reason tboneparte mentioned.

checking also gives us a chance to fold if someone bets then someone raises.

Think it's about time to post the results, some interesting debate for sure, thank you 2+2!

Spoiler:
Poker Stars $2.28+$0.22 No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t200/t400 Blinds + t50 - 8 players

BTN bets t1200, SB folds, Hero raises to t4851 all in, UTG+1 folds, CO folds, BTN calls t3651

Turn: (t12102) K (2 players - 1 is all in)

River: (t12102) A (2 players - 1 is all in)

Villain had K8o

The more I think about it, the more I think about jamming pre, to have picked up all the delicious dead money!

You hit a pretty nice flop with many draws and 14 outs:
1) 8 outs for str8, 6 outs for your 2 overcards;
2) you are drawing to the nuts, while someone else could call you with inferior str8 draw

Adding the sweet 2,400 dead money which is almost half your stack, shoving OTF should be +EV play. You have pretty good chance to generate fold here because you can represent pretty wide range of hands, not only draws but also set, or two pair... The bet from BU is very likely to be a bluff, inf act, his bet is mandatory, because he got the position and no body showed interest to fight for the pot.

So, i would shove here with 14 outs, half my stack dead money and good FE.

Maybe even ship before anyone can act: you are first to act, so you have the advantage to bluff; like in accounting FIFO ;-) The advantage is that you put a high price for anyone else who wants to go to the end of the hand. After the BU's bet, he could also feel obliged to call given the lucrative pot odds.

I would shove flop. I doubt we really have any fe vs a pair once he bets the flop with our stack size and 5ways its unlikely we'll pick up a bet from random air. However, our stack is large enough we may be able to fold out non tp hands. I don't really want to let everyone see a free turn to hit overcards either.
