No, it's a free product.

The thing is, based on what I've seen so far, the problem is with a product they're trying to integrate with ours, not on our side. So the guy is sort of trying to bully me into setting up the other product and diagnosing the issue, or "finding an expert on the other product." No thanks.

I lean towards no response, but I do like the idea of getting them to pay you personally for the support tier

Forward their emails to your boss.

The most amazing thing just happened. The guy just submitted his original question, from like 2 weeks ago (it's been a long email back and forth...) almost verbatim to the support email address.

(I'm the only person who gets the support email)

Rusty, I'm not 100% sure but it sounds to me like you've gone rogue. How are your non-paying customers able to reach you at all? Does anyone else in the organization know that you're wasting a bunch of time helping non-paying internet randos? Even if you think there's economic value in dealing with these people, this isn't something you should be dealing with and certainly not without explicit organizational buy-in. Your time is too valuable, you're likely doing a poor job upselling and you may be undercutting your sales team who would likely put a very high price on being able to get support from product engineers.

For sure I've gone rogue.

But my question was tongue in cheek, I'm just ignoring the dude, not telling him to EAD.

Can you post a generic example of a response with links?
so we are generating a kind of generic flow that other teams can use. they do some behind the scenes stuff and then send us a hypermedia, ie a url and verb for an api call.

we call that api which returns another hypermedia which we call. then different stuff happens.

so lets say we are given to start GET on api1/startFlow?a=bunch&of=query&params=stuff.

we call that and it gives us back

hypermedia:Hypermedia{
action:string;
href:string;
}

example
{
action: POST,
href: api1/nextFlow?a=bunch&of=query&params=stuff
}

its pretty straighforward really.

actually the response is a big different. not sure why.

Code:
{
  "_links": {
    "self": {
      "action": "GET",
      "href": "api1/nextFlow?a=bunch&of=query&params=stuff"
    },
    "target": {
      "action": "POST",
      "href": api2/nextFlow?a=bunch&of=query&params=stuff"
    }
  }
}

Just found out my previous employer is paying out a big lawsuit settlement because the "male-dominated corporate culture and management led to sex discrimination in pay, promotions, and job placements."

Doesn't surprise me in the least.

Was the culture bad? That strikes me as the sort of thing that, while all too common, is probably hard to prove in court unless people are flagrantly obvious about it.

Seldom does it get in front of a jury. The discovery process basically establishes how good a case each side has. It takes a while and the legal bills mount because there’s a back and forth between the lawyers plus settlement conferences, court appearances arguing motions, depositions, etc. So at some point the two sides assess the risk of losing and decide how much it is worth. Also there’s a rule typically called an offer of settlement made by the defense where the plaintive refusal that winds up being found in the defenses favor puts the plaintiff on the hook for the defenses legal bills. I know all this from personal experience.

I had a classmate from college that was a semester behind me. We both got offers out of school for comparable positions and her offer was substantially lower than mine.

The only other female I worked with left after I had been there about a year. A lot of current and ex employees keep in touch on a Slack instance we made. She admitted that she also had problems, complained about them, and they just gave her money to go away quietly rather than having to address the problems.

About to put in my notice. Kerowo was right. It is time to start caring more about my well being than the job. I cant save this company.

I’m sure they’ll promise me the sun and the moon, I plan on giving them a chance for me to exit gracefully and not cause problems for them. But there’s almost no price or situation that can convince me to stay at this point.

Good luck! I’m waiting to hear from a place I was interviewing with last December who reached out last week about a jerb that would get me back to Colorado. Then I’ll get to give my notice as well...

I spoke to my boss a few minutes ago and he was kind of surprised, not sure why. I've had several candid situations with him about how I feel about the situation I am in. maybe they didn't think I was serious about leaving - I do not need or care for money, at least for the immediate few years. If things got really bad I have an entirely different career to fall back on that LOVES seasonal type of work and contracting which makes it easy to job hunt in the meantime.

But my boss wants to go out to lunch with me and the CEO tomorrow to talk about it. He wants me to think of a reason to make me stay. I am a little afraid because there are scenarios and numbers that could get me to stick around, and I am really naive. It's just too many things to list at this point - absolutely everything needs to change.

If you get them to pay you a much higher salary - you can leverage that on your next job.

Get them to give you a lot of vacation, then take it all, then quit.

(Just kidding, don't do this)

I believe some kind of mob-esque "busting your cherry" ceremony is in order.
