What’s the difference between an ionic app and just opening chrome browser on your phone?

I am guessing about the same difference as running something like slack or discord "as an app" instead of in a web browser.

ETA: I may be wrong about discord but I'm pretty sure slack is just a SPA

This all the way. In my first job search, the amount of listings I was finding from them was insane. They usually comprised > 50% of the job postings. Pretty clearly don't have any job available and just gathering resumes.

wikipedia says that they were sold for $105 million in 2013. where is their revenue coming from?

I have spoken on the phone with cybercoders people twice and someone I went to HS with worked there for some time, so I do think they have some kind of business. But I have the same experience of 99% of their job descriptions being honey pots.

grats larry

Work's been crazy, i won't get too much into that because it annoys people. But today I am demoing a massive project I was working on all week and I am extremely nervous.

I designed and wrote a test harness for our new product. Basically it needed to be able to take a series of YAML input files with the desired environment and parameters, types of tests to run, etc.

I won't get into the product for confidentiality reasons but it's enormously complicated and requires a lot of networking knowledge as well as a pretty strong knowledge of docker containers. There are a near infinite amount of configurations to deploy the software under so I had to account for a lot of these and make it as flexible and easy to use as possible. It's like a 1000+ line series of scripts and I am new to this stuff so I am worried I did some stuff that's maybe embarrassing.

I coded it extremely defensively, with a lot of error checking/handling and tried to make it as easy to use, dynamic and modular as possible. It's working and should be fairly resilient to change, I hope.

Cybercoders being a scam has been known since at least 2011:

https://www.ripoffreport.com/reports...on-coll-701029

https://www.quora.com/Is-CyberCoders...ind-employment

I sent a tersely worded email to ZipRecruiter that I'm pissed that CC now has my resume. I'm sure that will get noticed.

Are you a ________ who likes to ________?

What are they doing with all those resumes? I think I might have sent them one last year when I was looking. I'm not sure. I definitely remember looking at a few.

i don't get why youtube pays content providers who provide really generic content what they do.

suppose that i have a youtube channel where i sit on my coach and feed my monkey food and say stuff like "oh you like that don't boy' for each 3 minute video. I was one of the first people to envision this type of youtube channel, so i have tons of subscribers and the youtube algorithms point towards my videos.

if i make $250,000/year from Youtube, what happens if they cut that to $50,000? There is almost no effort going into making the videos and I wasn't a rocket scientist or even a dentist prior to my youtube channel, plus there are like 100 other morons making the same videos but the algorithm doesn't point towards their videos, so they get 2,000 views/video instead of 900,000. It's pretty much a lock that there is someone out there who will feed their monkey and record it for like $10/hour.

are users going to follow these content providers to a different video streaming site if they flee youtube? doubtful.

youtube is replacing television and at some point youtube is going to figure out that it doesn't actually have to pay the content providers.

Do you have an example of a channel like this? The stuff I see tends to take some effort. My favorite channel (Coyote Peterson) takes a 3 person crew and travel. But admittedly I'm not much of a youtube junkie.

40m views each for these videos. If I had one of these channels, I would be desperately trying to sell it.

From what I heard there's a children's Youtube app that plays kids videos, so kids mindlessly watch video after video on auto play.

doesn't every long-running youtube channel have that one video of the creator whining about how youtube changed their formula and now they can't afford the payments on their lambo?

I dunno, most of my YouTubing is policing the stuff my daughter is watching but it’s painfully obvious that Youtube is not a meritocracy.

There is one channel where a girl does her own Barbie show and her parents are obviously tech savvy and they have digital back drops and professional editing, but otherwise, yikes.

After 4 years, today was my last day (*kinda) at my first dev gig. It's a little bittersweet. I am however excited for for the job I'll be starting in two weeks at a larger company. I've been at a smallish startup so being at a place with hundreds of engineers is going to be very different with hopefully some good new experiences.

* Kinda, because I'm technically transitioning to part time hourly. So I'll be putting in some nights and weekends for extra scratch and to keep my options. Buying em would cost a decent chunk and would come with an even bigger tax burden.

Anyone know anything about unloading startup equity in private markets?
