I haven't really done much coding in the last couple years tho.
My plan is basically to take the summer off and get back into the swing of programming. I planned to go through all of the odin project cuz I want to learn how to do that stuff and it fits with a couple projects I want to do that involve a web site, but honestly I've never really been keen on that area so not sure I want a job in web dev. I have a few other projects I want do work on as well, and I figured id just create them in java since I know that language best.
I'm doing this because I figure having some kind of portfolio to show will help me, but mostly just cuz I want to take the summer off because **** it I can, and im excited to work on my own ****. I am pretty worried tho because I'm 40 and my resume is basically "poker pro" then "school". Is my current approach completely stupid, is there something else I should be doing, or a better way to approach getting a job in software given my situation? Any advice would be wonderful, thanks
not that it matters now, but why did you switch from CS to math when you wanted a programming job?
regardless, not really sure what you are asking. given your resume and history, I highly doubt that taking another single summer is going to have any effect. and if you want a programming job, well then you need to somehow prove to employers that you are capable, so completing side projects seems like the best way.
so really, I dont think there is any other way for you to go about finding a job than trying to impress with side stuff. I would imagine many ppl would recommend going to meetups and "networking". also, can your school help at all?
