what do you typically bring? laptop and resume? my laptop is garbage but i can code with it in a pinch, not comfortably though. Spent like $500 on it so it's a little annoying because this is the second laptop in a row I've spent money on that was rendered pretty much useless by bloatware.

How to Migrate Windows to an SSD

Installing Linux is easy enough but there needs to be some time invested in coming up to speed. A way to just staying with Windows for the time being.

wouldnt he be better off reinstalling a clean windows sans the bloatware on the SSD rather than cloning his existing setup?

It was very intimidating at first, but it's not too bad if you come in with an open mind and are willing to spend time learning. It's also very easy to write very bad code with it and ignore everything functional.

What bloarware besides the bloatware that is a Windows install? Windows is bloatware so I'm not sure what a clean install buys you exactly. Also buying a new version might be costly. Cloning saves re-installing development tools too.

i don't have any knowledge of online grocery / grocery delivery... so this might be a terrible post... but why doesn't someone come along and do it like this:

Warehouse gets wholesale deliveries of products. Instead of letting the customer pick from an entire grocery store, give them limited choices weekly from that product list. have categories of foods and let them pick from those categories. pick enough products that stores sell with 50%-100% markups and not just the low margin items like eggs/milk that the grocery doesn't make $$... as long as people are buying X product knowing that it costs the same at the grocery they will happy.

they pay in advance and they confirm via text message/email/whatever that they are home and ready for delivery. if they are not home, they get charged a missed-delivery fee.

I don’t think there are a lot of high margin products at grocery stores anymore.

You are essentially taking every significant challenge in regards to last-mile delivery and logistics and wrapping them up together. Sure, it might be theoretically possible, but its not easy to execute at all, and you would surely lose money until you got to a ridiculous scale.

Larry is right on. My company does last mile delivery and it's challenging in a number of ways and takes pretty high daily volumes to get to profitability.

Add to that you're describing essentially a variation on blue aprons business. Their stock is getting killed in part because they have no real way of differentiating beyond branding.

Saw this posted to hn, and thought given jmakin's showed interest and surely others that this would be useful.

Just means stackoverflow is disproportionately popular among students in India and unpopular with experienced developers.

that can be said for everywhere though, no? seems like it is probably more about their particular demographics.

I'm curious what you (or anyone else here) think is going on here. What happens to older devs in India?

I was most surprised by Stack Overflow's gender distribution. Only 10% women, vs what... 25-30% overall in tech?

Interesting - it's 10% of traffic (according to Quantcast), 9% of US respondents, 6.9% of total respondents and 6.7% of respondents that identified as professionals (as opposed to students).

Btw, where are you getting 25-30% overall in tech?

so I think Victor's posts about the current state of his job is interesting from two different aspects:

1. What is most enjoyable from an "I do this 40rs (?) a week" perspective?

2. What is most beneficial for your future prosperity as a developer?

Just got a call from the place that never emailed me back, he wants to extend me an offer. He said it’s a different role from what they originally had in mind but will still be technical.

I go in thursday to find out. I hope it’s good because odds are damn near 100% i’m going to take it.

Nice congrats!

I would keep interviewing if I were you. Nothing is official until you sign the written letter, and even then you might lose the job before you even start. Without any offer details, I would not relax just yet.
