Yeah exactly. And now they'll be less likely to work another month over some bull**** excuse.
Which in reality is probably a hail mary to get funding, since the boss' wife has put her foot down that the boss waste no more of their personal piggy bank on this dog of a company.

Wtf - I didn't know you could do this.

Code:
if (new Function("return "+"true;")()) {
  console.log("YES!!!");
}
else {
  console.log("NO!!!");
}
// YES!!!

Code:
if (new Function("return "+"false;")()) {
  console.log("YES!!!");
}
else {
  console.log("NO!!!");
}
// NO!!!

I guess this is just some kind of implicit eval - with all the same dangers and performance hit?

Sorry we can't all be godlike JS gurus. For some reason I just never ran into that one before.

Apparently it's safer than eval: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...ith-javascript

i wasn't laughing at you. i misread actually -- i thought you were posting nonsensical code you'd seen. on 2nd glance i see it was just an example to illustrate that you *could* do that.

Just got this text from CEO:
Quote:
Hey, I got everything back on track. I'm going to send you a document via DocuSign just confirming you've deleted all source code. Once it's done, [boss wife] will pay IMMEDIATELY
Hmmm, any reason I should be scared about this? I guess they're trying to make it about source code (maybe as an excuse to the other employees). First time it's been mentioned. Like I would ever do anything with our FUBAR house of cards code disaster.

My main concern is not having emails will make it hard to contest in small claims court. But it doesn't say I have to delete git logs. Also I have my invoice, which the boss wife made me start detailed itemizing - THANKS! And all the texts and this email that form came in. Probably worth the risk.

I would sign it and put zero effort into wasting your time deleting stuff until you're paid.

These guys just sound like typical idiots who have no idea what they're doing. This is basically the other end of "sign this NDA before we discuss".

Meh, getting legal advice is probably a good idea. These guys are scumbags and it seems like a potential ploy to claim suzzer violated this contract later. I'd only sign it immediately if it the contract went two ways (i.e. also specified that I'm getting paid).

Yeah no chance I'm signing that / deleting anything without legal advice.

Same. You don't get paid for signing documents. You get paid for doing the work, which you've already done.

I have the email, from the CEO that says I'll get paid if I sign the doc. I also confirmed that they got the Meraki device I sent back. I signed it.

Now IMMEDIATELY has become tomorrow morning of course. Stay tuned.

I'm really hoping they just think their code base is that valuable. LOOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I think at the end they had given up on the core product, and were trying to pivot to a microservice hosting platform will all kinds of monitoring bells and whistles. Doesn't actually work for **** and has never been tested with more than on instance of node per microservice. Has about 10 extra layers of abstraction for old features that the boss got bored with and doesn't care about any more, like websockets (we got NATS now!). It all runs on rethinkdb - which isn't even supported anymore.

But hey who cares? Insignificant details we can hammer out later.

I presume you got a document when you started working for them that you would get paid if you did work for them? You might not even be bound by this new agreement since you receive no further consideration than that which you're already entitled to. Again, NAL, but my point is that this is all bull****.

It sounds like they don't know how to put a company down gracefully, so in their own grand delusions they believe the things they've created have some value. So they _justify_ paying you (which is just so ****ing LOL, but no doubt the case) by having you delete everything and walk away. In their minds, they somehow equate you leaving on bad terms as an existential threat to their business (probably because they spend their days reading about people who do stuff, and WANTING) and it makes them feel good to get something for paying you, because in their minds they had already decided on not paying you.

I don't know that this necessarily indicates that they really care about their code so much. They just realize they're in a bad place where you have leverage over them, which makes them feel bad. If you delete all your stuff, they will feel less bad about things. And then they can think about how/whether to pay you after that problem has gone away.

So don't give up your leverage until you have the money.

If you know a decent lawyer consult him/her. Legal advice in the web isn't the best FWIW. They owe you $8600 right? It shouldn't take more than an hour of a lawyers time to give you an opinion on the document. It doesn't seem that complicated. Tell them you want to consult with your attorney before you sign it and do it in writing/email.

Weird you worked for them, invoiced them, and now they want you to jump through another hoop to get paid. I'd be skeptical about their sincerity in paying you. Hopefully tomorrow you'll be posting that you got paid and people that had their doubts about that are just paranoid.

If I get paid tomorrow it will almost certainly be because I sent that email to the other employees.

I meant the email from the CEO, whose contents (regarding their shady asses not paying you) are surely confidential

Wait, you deleted all the emails? That's crazy town. If you didn't keep copies of the relevant emails about your pay, that's just foolish.

You don't need to be dishonest, just straight up say that you've deleted everything not relevant to the ongoing issue where you haven't been paid. And that you'll delete those emails once you're laid on full.
