yea plus they're located in canada so if you use torrents work real well because the companies don't bother with them

there's a lot of cheap vps that oversell and suck, but buyvm is by far the best.it's the linode of the lowendbox market

From what I think I know about it, you can publish a game with it similar to how couchdb can serve a couch app but you can also leverage components of it and use your own code (socket.io and node.js) to handle most of the logic similar to how couchdb can be used as just a datastore too while your web server handles the logic.

Is that the flow of how construct works too?
They are comparable in the sense they both make HTML5 games. I've never used CouchDB so don't know about that, the flow in Construct 2 is you make your game with events and you can use the Javascript SDK to write your own plugins that can do just about anything. Plugins are small reusable Javascript files and people make and share them all the time: http://www.scirra.com/forum/plugins-...2_forum47.html It's quite easy to wrap up Javascript code into usable Construct 2 plugins.

Hmm, so I could write an entire game with socket.io/node and tie in construct to hook into whatever it made when I designed the game's map?

Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong but the map editor is nothing more than a way to visualize some JS that these game frameworks make for you automatically? Certainly not a trivial task (and totally worth buying for this alone), but that is what they are doing right?

I failed at the first jump where the world is supposed to turn upside down in that squid game and gave up. Controls felt a little clunky as well.

yea 10am if its the other daylight savings time then its 9am. you can always get tons of cheap vps, but they usually are crappy and leave town with your money. buyvm been around for a long time and is quality, why they're so sought after

We are GMT -4 during DST so I think you're right.

edit: rsig, I think if it's specified as GMT -8, that specifically excludes the possibility of it including DST right?

lol @ computer programmers who can't crack the extremely complex process of keeping time across a single planet. (some special dispensation is available for handling the international date line and timezones with half-hour offsets (ffffffffffuuuuuuuuuu india)).

i thought GMT doesn't change but the clocks change relative to GMT

EDT is GMT -4
EST is GMT -5

If I could change anything in the entire world, normalizing everyone on a single timezone would certainly be in my top 5. As would giving them all a single character set.

I guess I need to look more into nosql. I have not done a lot of research on it.

Interesting link. The metric system missed an opportunity on timekeeping but my main gripe with the current system (aside from the ridiculous "daylight savings" time), is the usage of a.m. and p.m. I don't see what purpose is served by dividing the day into two halves, other than creating an opportunity for scheduling confusion, especially when setting alarms. And it's poorly implemented. I used to get confused about whether 12:30 pm meant afternoon or after midnight. Then when I thought about it, I realized why it was confusing. The clock goes from 11:59 am to 12:00 pm. So you're supposed to start the am/pm count at 12 and count up to 11. Replace 12 with 0 and at least the counting makes sense but counting up 12, 1, 2 is absurd.

So anyway, now I'm on military time.

i've been using 24h time since, uh, 2001 or so? it's awesome and i've had shockingly few incidents of "twenty o'clock? whatch'all talkin' 'bout?".

what's been really interesting to me lately is how smart people will translate transparently to their "native" system:

recruiter: when is the best time to reach you?
me: around 0930 or after 1700.
recruiter: great. see you at 5!

I'm new to the 24 hour clock, and so far I only use it in the sense that my electronic devices are set that way (where possible). I've never used it in conversation. You actually say "20 o'clock" or would it be the military style "20 hundred hours"? Which is completely illogical, 2000 hours wtf, hopefully the former then.
