They asked a couple of simple questions and then some weird thing where you had measure the maximum or shortest distance between words based off some weird wikipedia chart where numbers had numeric values, i don't even remember what it was exactly, but it was super weird.

Nope, complete nonsense. Games are plenty beatable (they might not be the same games that were most beatable 10 years ago), rakeback is lower to non-existent is all. There are sites other than Stars, too.

It currently does not do anything. The ambition is to run poker simulations.

I spent the day programming tic-tac-toe, and I want to use Linux IPC, and do the same with the poker sim later. I think I am going to make a tic-tac-toe app first to learn some concepts.

I want the server to store the game state, and take messages from the players. What IPC mechanism should I use? I am thinking about using pipes for player-vs-player and shared memory for a basic ai min-max. Any good resources for IPC? I figure after writing this portion, the engine should apply to turn-based games in general.

My current goal is to randomly walk through hands. So, they are posting blinds, putting in bets, evaluating the winner (found free code online for evaluation). Doing it all in C and pointers.

Question for the AWS gurus itt: a lambda is code and a cloud formation template (roles, triggers, etc). Would you put those in the same repo? Put all the cloud formation stuff in it’s own repo? Should a lambda template (not code) be just as independent as the code - IE deployable on its own?

I kinda like the idea of each lambda having two separately deployable repos.

Taking it one step further - does something like the SNS template get its own repo - instead of being part of a giant cloud formation repo? I think it has to right? You want to be able to deploy SNS w/o rebuilding your whole infrastructure. Or maybe Amazon is smart enough to only redeploy stuff that changed in your big-ass cloudformation template?

I'm not suggesting it's a cakewalk, just that "omg online poker is unbeatable!" is nonsense. Yes, some serious study may be required to compete at the higher levels. It is fairly common to pull 5% ROI from low-mid level games.

Can you imagine what today's webdev looks like to someone who used to make easy decent money crafting homepages for local business with Dreamweaver and hosting on a reseller plan, who got out of the web game but now took a quick look at what web devs do today?

And while I'm not at all certain, I think in 2017 gramps was one of those regs sticking to traditional dead formats while ignoring the massive goldmine of new format where all the fish were (jackpot sngs). Again, may be totally wrong here but I suspect not given your statement.

Not the same thing. Today's webdev is just about learning more tools to build cool stuff. Many times it's a win-win for everyone. It's not about continuing to make a profit in a zero-sum game with a shrinking prize pool, shrinking losing player pool, and much lower if any frequent player incentives.

I feel pretty confident gramps was chasing every profitable game out there. I know he was playing a ton of the super turbos - which were printing money for a bit until they killed off the fish.

Let's just say you need a supercomputer to model GTO scenarios just to keep up with your pro vs. pro interactions, or you probably won't be profitable at SNGs these days.

Note: maybe I'm wrong and gramps is a big fish. But he was always hugely profitable back in the day and was definitely the best coach I had. My coaching deal with him was pretty funny in that it was percentage-based and I ran like God (18%) over our 1000 SNG deal. I still wonder if I played my best because I knew he was watching.
