I mean this in the best way, and he knows, but I think a lot of dave's perceptions are because he has worked for/with many more ****heads than the average person, but while extreme, he does represent a side of technology that absolutely exists.

What’s the ‘official documentation’ for c++ or Java?

Possibly. When you drop an element as in html5 drag and drop, the entire url redirects to nonsense numbers that I'm setting state on. So almost certainly a react bug.

It isn't like I never speak about my modus operati. Of course I'm not able to really relate to working on a team, but I can only try to relate my experiences and how I see my role in fixing issues.

I'm not saying you can't write in a non-standard style, but if you do so without causing massive landslides across the code base, yourself later on, and the people who come after you, I haven't seen it. I only speak in proxies, not absolutes.

Well, official documentation or not, everyone (hopefully) knows that you don't write it like J.

Allow me to be of assistance to you.

Links to Java Specs

Links to C++ Specs & Standards

Google is your friend. Glad I could help.

I couldn't find a Python specification. From StackOverflow:

On a Python Specification
Quote:
There's no specification per se. The closest thing is the Python Language Reference, which details the syntax and semantics of the language.
Close enough I guess.

Hah, Kerowo, I don't think I'd call myself the forum troll. I contribute mostly real content and just troll a little.

I also don't think I'm trolling with my comments about documentation.

I mean, sure, I could have come out and explicitly said that the idea that reading official documentation is how someone learns how to write quality code is ABSURD because Java's official documentation is like a thousand pages long (per version of the language!). But I didn't think I needed to.

Adios is the troll in that little play, not you. You get a little tunnel visiony and single minded in some arguments but rarely for pure trolling.

Hah, I didn't think Adios was trolling me. Although maybe he was also too subtle for me.

I think your point was clear. I also don't think Dave would have harsh words for people doing functional programming in Perl, PHP, Java, etc, which would also not be idiomatic. You can't appeal to community norms (or official standards or whatever) only when they favor your position. Dave goes out of his way to be contrarian in how he chooses to do things and what he chooses to use so it's a bit strange that in this instance, he's arguing that doing things the standard way is objectively better.

I'm getting a lot of joy out of the fact that nobody seems to know who's trolling or not in this forum right now.

It's interesting because in this particular instance I'm being accused of being a troll precisely because I'm too serious - this stems from the conversation where Craggoo was describing something at work with a decidedly external locus of control and I dug into the situation with an eye towards having him approach the situation with an internal locus of control because that's the only way you become better at something. Then he got super-defensive and started calling me a troll. Then again, I was raised by wolves so what do I know.

On a completely different note, I'm finally learning some Python (and more importantly its ecosystem of tools and libraries around data science and machine learning) and it's not as bad as I thought.

In my play, craggoo is talking about Dave, suzzer sets up the joke, adios is the troll and Jj is there for verisimilitude. It may have been too early and too decafinated but I lolled.

What were you using for data science/ml before? The data science stuff should all be virtually identical.

Craggoo, I think you should reevaluate your stance on candybar. He likes to argue but there is a lot of wisdom in his posts.

I don't do data science or machine learning - I'm just trying to get a better idea where things are and I think at the level of deep learning and GANs and other cutting edge stuff (as opposed to basic logistic regression on relational data and similar stuff, which is frankly where most companies outside of top tech companies are), I may be more interested. I did use Matlab way back in the day for neural networks and signal processing and other statistical stuff but they weren't super-useful but forgot everything after years.

Why should he though - it's easier to blame the critic for being unworthy than to accept the criticism. I'm 100% serious - maybe he's right and the rest of you are wrong.
