I'm increasingly convinced that applying for publicly-advertised jobs is a waste of everyone's time.

Would like to sort this sooner rather than later as google/blogger looks like doing some cleanup of old stuff in the near future so as I don't think the guy who wrote the stuff I want is around on that site any more it could be disappearing soon (although I'm guessing something like archive.org would still hold a copy). Something that could virtually click on each month of the archives and download into something like a pdf would be perfect but open to any suggestions
A tool like wget can do this without much fuss. Or maybe it's all in archive.org already?

Agreed. Every job I've ever gotten has been a referral.

Just in case people might read here but not check NVG - a freaking superuser scandal just got outed on GG Poker (thanks to the efforts of players, of course).

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/2...hread-1829967/

The superusing was pulled off because the GG Poker client software security was so absurdly weak, they were transmitting over the wire the win/loss % numbers for when a player goes all-in, BEFORE any player actually went all-in !!!! So the client has the numbers ready for any eventuality, or some equally baffling logic.

A canny hacker (just the one, of course! the only person possibly exploiting this is the one caught by the community!) was able to poke the client and read these values, essentially telling him his flop and turn equity in hands before any flops and turns were dealt!

Staggering ineptitude!

Thanks for posting. So dumb to send info to the client that the player shouldn't see. That should be fundamental.

as I understand it, their initial attempt to fix it was to edit the client rather than not sending the data in the first place. Just boggles the mind.

The paradigm that cypherpoker was designed with was such that:

1) there is a shared infrastructure for the protocols
2) the design is such that a 3rd party can compartmentaly verify game play (ie any table can choose any verifier for any hand).

The common criticism for p2p poker is things like collusion but cypherpoker simply provides the shared part of the infrastructure for competing sites (industry and players reap the cost reduction).

There is no reason to have a design where you can cheat in the above way

you're assuming there are inherent issues in the infrastructure of todays poker sites

the issue is not in the infrastructure - the issue with gg was gross negligence and incompetence to not even follow the basic architecture

no matter how well you design this cypherpoker you speak of, if you put the gg team to implement they would have done the same thing and took lazy and stupid shortcuts to allow for the same exploits

if a vehicle crashes because a baby was driving it, designing a car with better steering will not have much of a difference if you put another baby behind the wheel again

We remove the barrier to entry for new sites inciting competition in the industry and dramatically reducing the costs to offer games. But this does nothing because the players will still choose to play at ggpoker.

It is correct however to accept that some issues cannot be solved programmatically.
