Some point of sale systems too.

I'm surprised. The dumb thing about Dongles today is that they'll only inconvenience the honest folk.

Basically yeah. Being I haven't come across one in years, I'm assuming they're currently less interested in using them for $400-$500 pieces of software than they used to be.

I do love Apple's no copyright protection policy on everything save for Logic/Final Cut. Not treating me like a thief has probably caused me to buy more of their stuff when given the choice.

Worse than dongles:

Thankfully no, but it's pretty interesting. Here's the wikipedia link.

My first computer. Paid around 3K for it in the mid 80's. 64K ram, 20 meg hard drive, 640x480 monochrome screen. Pretty hot setup at the time. First software I bought for it was the Lattice C compiler.

A compiler cost a few hundred dollars and there were no viable open source options at the time. I bought some books and taught myself. Found a job doing C programming. Been doing it ever since though nowadays it is C++ and C#.
