There may be some confusion over what I was doing at this company. I started off helping stand up the support department and being a senior support tech, that transitioned into supporting the customer while setting up the interfaces to get their data into our system, which eventually led to owning the data load programs we are writing for each customer. We decided that getting customers data into our system and getting them set up with the products they purchased needed it's own team and since that's what I'd been doing for most of my time at the company I get to own that product. So no freelancing just a chance to have a job title that other people understand and doesn't involve hand waving and long definitions...

That does sound reasonable.

Yeah, an understandable job title is definitely an asset, only such total hermits as me don't strive to have it

What's bad with IDEs? Is the code that they generate too unreadable to edit it manually?

I'll consider PdbSublimeTextSupport as an alternative to PyCharm because Alex Wice has given a positive testimonial for Sublime Text itt Is anyone besides Alex here a fan of that IDE?

There's nothing bad about IDEs, and they don't for the most part generate code, they just make it easier for you to type it in.

I was not a proponent of IDEs because I preferred to use emacs. There are many things from emacs that I miss in Pycharms, but I finally decided that what I lost was more than made up for by pycharm's functionality, which is really considerable.

Several of my coworkers use sublime. All I have to say is that to my eye, they have a harder time "getting around" in it than I do in pycharms. But that might also just be that they don't really know it as well as they could.

Oops, it looks as though there's no big problem for me because MS Visual Studio Community 2015 with PTVS 2.0 is free for individuals (and enterprises with <=5 users, <=250 computers and <=$1M annual revenue) for all purposes, and it does have a debugger. (Since 2015, the free edition of VS does support plugins.)

Only poor big corporations (or those who write web apps or apps for OS other than Windows) have to pay for it or use something else
