I would read poker forums and listen to what poker players want, or what they seem to be missing, and go from there. It'll go a lot better, though, if *you* know what you want and what needs to be done. Some of the worst software projects I've worked with have been made by people who were not the target audience.
Asing players what kind of tools they want is on the right track.
Where I think he might have gone wrong is:
-Asking on the programmers subforum: This is a question that is addressed to regular players.
-Asking what tools they need: Instead ask what problems they have. Then you can ask programmes what tools could solve that problem, or figure it out yourself.
