Troubleshooting very high ping to router only over wifi and only on one PC Troubleshooting very high ping to router only over wifi and only on one PC

I will appreciate any help on further troubleshooting this issue.

AT&T Fiber running into Arris BGW-210 in IP Passthrough mode to my Asus RT-N66U running AdvancedTomato.
  • The Arris is running on 192.168.48.x, and the router is on 192.168.1.x
  • Desktop PC running Win 10 with Asus PCE-AC88 adapter is about 20 feet away from the router with line of sight
  • When I ping the router from the PC about 75% of the pings are > 2000ms, others are either fast or occasionally dropped
  • If I directly connect the PC to the router via a long ethernet cable, then ping is fine
  • If I ping the router via any other laptop over wifi, then ping is fine

What I have tried:
  • Replaced my cheap USB wifi adapter w/ the Asus PCE noted above and ensured running latest drivers
  • Standard resetting, rebooting things
  • Virus/malware checks
  • Disabling Windows from checking for other wireless networks or updates
  • 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghz band makes no difference
  • I tried to test this in safe mode, but it seems you cannot enable the wireless adapter driver in safe mode

This issue kind of just popped up 3-4 weeks ago for no apparent reason. Performance prior was acceptable.

The fact that everything is very fast over ethernet seems to rule out software related issues specific to this PC, however as I said, it wifi runs great on my other devices.

I am considering wiping the Tomato firmware and going back to stock Asus, as my next step, but I do not have any good reason why the firmware would only be impacting this device.

Final resort would be to just give up and go into my attic and start drilling holes for running ethernet. Would love to avoid that.

Any suggestions or feedback?
