I'd go MacBook simply for the display quality(assuming you go retina). I've got a pretty decent Windows laptop but sadly things just look crappy on it compared to my MacBook pro.

If cost is an issue I'd go hackintosh or installing ubuntu directly.

I haven't looked into this yet but is building a hackintosh laptop realistic? I don't know if it's really even possible or if you'd even see that much of a cost savings.

great thread... I am happy to see my frustrations with Windows aren't my own.

at least with Windows, you don't have to worry about Bash shell shock bugs!

Bought Macbook Pro when I joined a bootcamp program which was my first Mac experience. Easy as hell to get Rails working in no time as long as you have a little knowledge of using the command line.

update: Bought a macbook around a month ago. Gotta say, best decision ever. The only thing I regret somewhat is purchasing the 13" vs the 15". Other than that, it's been a dream.

Purchase 1Password and you will truly be living the dream.
Probably the best password manager you can get if you own a macbook and I truly think it is worth it.

The browser extension with 1Password is amazing, just rightclick and bam you select 1Password and it is automatically added to sign in.
