Sadly, this is what this thread has become. Everyone knows it's a ****ty situation and some of us have been in similar situations.
Loss aversion and the sunk cost fallacy: Your boss dropped ~$1500 on some software without knowing anything about it. That doesn't mean you have to use it if there is a better alternative that you can use more efficiently. And on the grand scheme of things, it was a fairly cheap lesson for your boss to learn.
